This one may be challenging to find a comp.  What I have here are 3 scanned pages from about 70 (ignore discoloration, it's from the scan- these are fan-fold printed and tough to lay flat without pulling apart).  This is from a tournament in 1985 called October Con, held in Elkhart, IN.  I DM'd in this event, and afterwards, collected most of the sheets back, and held onto them. It is missing the first page (which I assume was a title page) and the top half of page 2. There are a few pages also missing from the pre-generated character sheets, but the rest is intact and in pretty good shape- there are some annotations on a few pages from tournament play. I would have included a few more example pages, but the limit here was 3 uploads.

What makes this a little more interesting than just being a local tournament module, is that it was provided by TSR and called "Baltron's Beacon".  Some of you may recognize the name. Shortly after this tournament, TSR published it as Module I7, Baltron's Beacon!  There are several map pages, and comparing the maps, they are nearly identical between the tournament module and finished module. I haven't gone through page by page to compare room and monster descriptions, as this is a recent "discovery" (buried deep in my footlocker of old D&D things- it's been unviewed since I stored it away), but I am assuming like the maps- they're essentially identical.

Certainly a fairly unique piece of TSR module history. So what say you? What kind of price might I get? It will probably go up auction style, but depending on what kind of value I might expect, will probably determine where and when it goes up (something I will share with this group).

As a teaser, I do have a 2nd module from 1987 that's 100% complete- but I'm starting with this one. ;)

Back in 2005 these two items sold on eBay:

Greyhawk Tournament Module Pit of Geburah '76 for $1,876.76
D&D GenCon VIII 1975 Tournament Module Sunken City for $476.00

I am not going to take a guess at what it would sell for today as there are people on this site with way more experience than me, but maybe this information gets the conversation started.  I will add that prices have increased dramatically since 2005.  :)

That's amazing info. How did you look this up? Was it eBay or a 3rd party site?

Those sales have almost nothing to do with what you have. They are items from 1975 & 1976, the dawn of D&D, which is what caused their high prices. I was in fact the underbidder on Pit of Geburah (and I wish I had bid more, but I was also going to try and win the original Bottle City adventure and map, so I didn't go all out). Hundreds of dot matrix tournament adventures have been sold (personally I own about 200) in the last 20 years and they have generally sold in the $150-$500 range. Completeness matters a lot in the pricing. As does if the tournament is a special one (or was turned into a module, like yours). Prices have risen in the past couple years and if your module was complete you could probably get more than that. It is highly unlikely you will be getting $2,000 for your tournament.

I agree with your assessment, and have pretty much come to the same conclusions. They do at least provide a little basis when you factor in the contextual differences. The Pit of Geburah certainly has a richer history and my understanding after a little research is, it contained original handwritten documents/maps, as opposed to a print/copy.  Huge difference-IMO, at least as big a difference as the 10-years between. On the pro-side for my two, are the fact that they became modules, as well as any inflationary increase in values. I do wish my Baltron's Beacon were complete- missing the first page and a half certainly puts a hit into the value- the few missing character sheets are fairly negligible, IMO.  I'm glad my copy of the Lost Shrine of Bundushatur, is complete, though if given a choice, would rather have had BB the complete one, being slightly more historical in relevance.

That is pretty crazy to think about your having that many dot-matrix tournament adventures. I can't imagine what the rest of your collection looks like as well.

It’s really incomparable. Here are links to a couple of Acaeum threads about it:

Your eBay listing looks good.  You gave lots of photos and a solid description.  I wish you the best.  :)

Perhaps dropped the ball there in not allowing international buyers.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Thanks again to everyone who provided some guidance and info, and those who watched and bid.  For those interested, the auction ended with a flurry of last second bids, with a winning bid of $696.

The second tournament module I have will hit the auction block in the next day or two.

Congratulations!  That's a good price for an incomplete item, although you weren't missing much.  I wouldn't be surprised if posting the sale link in the Classifieds here helped.  :)

Thanks! Being new to the forum, I don't know all the players, but I imagine he's a member. I don't know that he would want to be identified, but it is going to a prominent collector, and for that I'm grateful.

That's a great score! Honestly my guess was 200/250 bucks...
With this auction you make me consider to do as well with my tourney module published then as a UK series module!
Happy to read these news!

Its title is:
Teki-Nura-Ria The Mountain of Death
It was run at gamefair 1981 and later published as CM6 where chaos reigns

So thought it was written by Graeme Morris it wasn't published as a UK module, but a CM module. And four years later as well.

Sorry, that's correct: i meant a module by TSR UK people!
It's a BECMI module, of course! Re to the 4-year gap, I never realized it took that much... maybe because it had to cross the ocean...
