I have an old wood grained box, that much like the Velveteen Rabbit has been much loved.  I've been told it might be of great interest to collectors more skilled than I am.  I'd really appreciate help on valuation of it. First the story behind it and then a link to photos of the box.

I was introduced to D&D at Origins I where I played in Tomb of Horrors.  I purchased a third edition rule set and Greyhawk at that convention. I was fortunate to go back to Origins II in the summer of 1976.  I had to have more D&D materials and purchased things like Blackmore, Chainmail, etc.  As I recall, the booth had run out of bags.  The books were tucked into an unmarked wood grained box to contain my newly acquired treasures.  That box has served me well over the decades, but it's time for me to let it go.

The two folks who are best to help chime is would be Paul(stormber/The Collector's Trove) and David(harami2000/faro, et. al.).  I can see Paul still checks in from time to time, not sure if David is still around not. I chatted with him breifly through eBay a few years back and I can see he still is active there periodically, just not sure how often he visits here any more.

Fairly certain that the unmarked box didn't come with a label.  Even much yonger me was a fanatic about attaching things properly, so I have fairly high confidence in this.

I think (it was almost 48 years ago...) that the box was sans D&D booklets, being given to me as a substitute box at Origins II.

It could be a box for a gamma set, that is a TSR Frankenstein set built from left over parts.  As I understand it the gamma sets were available about the time of Origins II and were composed of:

1. Men & Magic booklet,
2. Monsters & Treasures booklet,
3. Available Errata inserts, in an
4. Unmarked woodgrain box

My understanding is that the two booklets should be either 1st or 2nd printing (whichever was on hand) and that the third booklet was omitted from the set.

It just so happens that I also have all four of those components and lack the third booklet.  I also have another wood grained box, this one with a label, just to throw more doubt on my fire.

My other set of original materials is also posted on Google drive, in case that helps understand what the blank box is: drive.google.com/drive/folders/1u8psoW9 ... sp=sharing.  One thing to note on the "other" set is that I have five errata pages with one being a duplicate, perhaps supporting an adhoc set construction.

Maybe I have a gamma with 3rd printing booklets, or literally an empty box of the same vintage as the gamma boxed set.
