I am going through the appraisals but can't determine exactly which print this one is.  On the back right it says 1974, 1977, 1978, 1981 All Rights Reserved.  On the back left it says 1980.
Still in shrinkwrap.  Any help appreciated

Currently, the Acaeum lists the value at $14 in Near Mint + 50% for shrink so $21

Some pics of the back of the box would be nice as well.    Also, it is hard to tell from the photo, but the box appears to be slightly dished in the upper right corner.  Is this correct? Higher res photos would also be a plus but I would say $50 is on the low side these days. $75 to 100+ if the condition is really nice.

Are there a larger-than-average number of these around? The Moldvay box was somewhat overshadowed in its day. The Holmes box remained in catalogs & on shelves, splitting the market. Although Moldvay was printed during the D&D boom (so likely in large quantities), it had only a brief window when it was current ('81-'82) before replacement by the Mentzer box.  At which point the gaming boom turned bust, probably leaving many Moldvay boxes unsold & still in shink. Then we have the aesthetic issue - it remains to this day perhaps the ugliest D&D product-packaging ever executed, comparable to the Pink Bunkadoo from Time Bandits.

Would you give $149 to someone who uses the phrase "awesome sauce?" Thus establishing that the buyer is an idiot, even before we consider the particulars of the deal.

We try to do the best we can when someone asks for an appraisal.

As a buyer, an open copy in excellent shape is probably easily obtained in the $20-$30 range.  So what's the premium for shrink?

As a buyer, you can be frugal and wait until a copy sells for $50 or be impatient and hit the buy-it-now of some auction such as the $150 and $220 ones.  Where do you then nail down the "value" - drop a few of the high and a few of the low and end up somewhere in the middle.

As always, what give here is simply advice based on our opinions.  How long would you have to list the item for it to sell at $200+.  I generally give values for what I think you can sell it for in a reasonable amount of time but it is also just an opinion.
