Okay, per Shane's request, here are the details on the Tac Cards that came with this lot:

They appear to be a first print, but the count of 137 total cards is 3 short of a full deck, I believe. The breakdown is as follows:

Staff/Wand cards: 5
Change miscellaneous: 6
Change mounted lance: 6
Monsters Attacking: 3
Man to Man Melee: 3
Man Attacking: 3
Change Weapon: 92
Action (salmon/pink): 18
Product card: 1

Can anyone tell me what I'm missing? They appear to have never been used, with sharp corners and edges, and no marks. Overall, better than I expected.

Oh, and yeah, the white box set is a 5th print, much nicer than the one I just sold, and came with a SEALED set of low-impact d20s (one white, one pink).

Well the reported 135 set should include this:

68 weapon cards, ranging from sword to pole arm and light crossbow to longbow; these simply have 'change' on the reverse.
12 weapon cards, 6 dagger and 6 spear, with other options on the reverse such as 'throw'.
6 weapon cards with mounted lance on one side and pike on the other, each side having the 'change' at the foot of the card.
6 shield cards with 'change' on the reverse.
6 torch cards with 'change' and 'strike flint' on the reverse.
4 wand cards with staffs on the reverse.
6 equipment cards with change, mirror, rope and miscellaneous on one side and flask, cross, sack and spikes on the other.
18 action cards in 3 sets of 6, including melee actions (punch, grapple) and other actions (activate magical item, read).
3 cards with with Men Attacking chart on one side, saving throws and clerics vs undead on the other.
3 cards with monster attacking chart on one side, monsters attack damage on the other (83 monsters).
3 cards with Man-to-Man melee chart.

now of my Tac Cards I have 28 different cards plus a first print title card and the white product card. If the 140 is true for 2nd then thats the reported 5 cards each of the '28'.
You having 1 more staff/wand card which makes me wonder if the '140' is for the first also, and the '135' set was miscounted.

Either way its a good win (never saw it till it was posted way later :( )

I didn't know there was a 135 card set, but at first glance, excluding the product list card and the cover card makes 135 cards total. I'll take a closer look at what I've got. Thanks for the info.

On the re-count, I get exactly what you've got listed there, with two exceptions:

- there are 5 wand cards with staffs on the reverse
- there are 80 monsters on each of the 3 cards with monster attacking chart on one side and attack damage on the other.

Your title card does state 140 correct?

Done some research, many early sources state 135 cards, and later begin stating 140 (I will have to check on this around the time the address changes to see just when the break appears to be)
Also are all your cards the same color? You wrote that the Action cards were salmon/pink.

I have:

3 Sword (appears to be a short sword, though the following card also has the same stats)

How many of those listed above do you have (and it appears that I do not have the monster attacking or Man-to-Man cards..so a scan of those would be appreciated) So then that makes 30 different cards plus title and product cards (4 cards each of weapons regarding the 68: ranging from sword to pole arm and light crossbow to longbow; these simply have 'change' on the reverse.)

We may just finally uncover the truth behind these..course now if those with the sealed 2nd print would only open up the pack and count them :wink: PLEASE :)

Forgot to say that '5th' wand/staff card maybe one that slipped into the pack..imagine counting those out making the packs.. 1 could be shuffled in by mistake.

With some notes before explanation:
1976 September While writing Booklet "I", Bob and Bill come up with the Dungeon Tac Cards and publish those first (product #2).

In between Booty List #10 1976 Oct to #17 1976 Dec76-Jan77, Item #14 is produced.

Now this would mean after the 1st print of these (or 2nd since the address for 1165 N. University Ave isn't on a known title card) the Ready Ref sheet type cards were removed and the color was unified. (I suspect the number 5 seemed favorable and keeping all the cards to that amount meant it was easier to produce the sets.
Now why have 4 Parry/Get Up cards in the '2nd/3rd' seems odd since the first does not count the title card in its # of 135. (was there/or is there a set with 5..and is the set with 4 possibly a mix up much like the # of wand/staff cards Stephen's set has?)
Well its something to ponder.

Yup, Shane, I'd pointed out that ref. to the Tac Cards in Journal "I" back on the following, although I was working on a false premise as to the printings back then. (If I hadn't been, I wouldn't have won that auction, I s'pose!)

Yes, that was why I thought 3rd... However we've extended the search and still none have turned up to fill that gap.
And we (collectively!) now know there are sets with Yellow and Green cover cards which might now indicate there is no middle "printing"; just the possibility of hybridisation as the switch-over occurred, perhaps?

Well concerning this..it appears the 135 lasts till Journal Q (Feb/Mar 1978) though crops up in the August 1978 and May 1979 catalogs. The 140 count does not appear till oddly Journal Q. (I've not checked my earliest Dungeoneer #8 but for those who have 1-7 if they could check to see if so far dates are true.)

Side Note: Also I'm now in the task of creating a spreadsheet concerning product lists and printings..340 items not including catalogs..so that I can attempt to figure out when these products were released.
So fair warning, once I've gone through my stuff I'm going to be asking for scans of product lists :wink: :) Don't worry though, probably take me a while.

Oh and if Foul is back from his trips (not to certain his overall status)..I hope to get the site okayed to open.

thats actually not such a bad idea....just to make sure everything looks top-notch. sometimes there will be things there you cant see and others will.

Sometimes I can forget about the minor things.

Case in point this auction with P.O. Box addy (3 yellow title cards/reverse has man to man melee table.

Tac Cards 1st

Another title card I have with P.O. Box addy, yet not only green, but reverse has a small list of products.

Then there is the N. Sunnyside addy on a green card.

So there is 3 printings of these..1976, 1977, 1978

Plus I was reminded about my own facts concerning these..that white sheet would not have been with the first print, since the Judges Shield was 1977. Why I did not spot this sooner I do not know, though it shall be corrected on the next update.
