Which White Dwarf DVD printing do you have?

The tall thin dude................................................................ The dead guy crawling away from the spaceship....

.. .

I'm asking in order to establish the relative rarity of the first one over the second. ATM I know of one guy who has the tall thin dude. It appears that the DVD is identical, just the picture is different. I have the dead guy crawling, and I think most of them are like this.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

You may be right. I haven't ever read the relevant issue. I thing it's WD11. I have no idea if it illustrates an article inside. He looks like he should belong to Planescape, except he's 10 years too soon.

Some of you have asked if you can tell the difference between the two disk types without opening the box. I believe you can, but without opening all the mailers I can't prove my theory correct. But it has been for the two I've openned thus far....

On a lot of the mailers is a sticker, and in the centre of it is a data block. Almost all of the stickers I have on my mailers are like the one at the top. But I have a few with the sticker at the bottom. Most notably is the difference in the number '1' as opposed to '2', but there is also a noticably poorer quality to the printing of the second label. Note the missing bit on the 'Q', and the missing strokes on some of the type faces. This makes me wonder if the disks were actually made and packed in seperate locations. The tall guy with the big stick comes from the box with the poor quality label.

There has been a guy post on Dragonsfoot saying he's got a copy with the tall thin dude on the disk. I have two. Is that them all?

I'm not really sure, but at least I can say that through various sundry means I already have the contents of the DVD, so I am not that concerned with the silly asking price.

What I like best is the availability of "modern" software to make short work of the actual Acrobat files. With any luck, I should have the old Judges Guild ads extracted for Shane within a few days and perhaps in a couple of weeks a compilation of all the Judges Guild reviews. Now ... as to whether he wants copies of any of the other ads or reviews ... that may be a different matter.

All of this while putting together a compilation of adventures, mosters, magic items, and character classes for use in an old school campaign since I have a group of players wanting to go retro ...

That was the joke, Steve. I'm the guy selling these on eBay.

The price is a feature of my cost getting them from source plus a little profit margin. They sell well enough at that price point, but if I could get them at a lower cost, I'd drop the price accordingly to increase my sales. Unfortunately my shipping costs are a bitch and I can't get them shipped direct from source. It's pretty much a niche market thing anyways.

One thing you could do is tell us what the password is to unlock the PDF files. I've run them through various PDF Password recovery programs and not managed to get a hit. If you've managed to find it, I'm sure there are a few people here who would like to know.

One thing you could do is tell us what the password is to unlock the PDF files. I've run them through various PDF Password recovery programs and not managed to get a hit. If you've managed to find it, I'm sure there are a few people here who would like to know.

Elcomsoft has a nice little utility for stripping the password out of pdf files. After removing the password from each file, I was able to import into OmniPage and run it through the OCR process to obtain a usable document.

Unfortunately, the graphics rendering of the original scans used to create the pdf files in the first placce leaves something to be desired, so I am having to use Universal Document Converter to get clean jpegs of the graphics I need from each of the magazines.

I didn't quite make it all the way through splitting the individual issues out so I could forward the Judges Guild advertisements as of yet. Should be able to make it through the remainder of the issues later on tonight. As for the Judges Guild reviews, only made it as far as Issue 14 so far on the editing. At this point I think there were three or four issues that had reviews and am not sure how many more issues there are left to go before I have them all. I will see what I can do by this weekend.
