I just came back from a few hours browsing around at TotalCon here in Mansfield, MA. The buzz at the event was largely around Frank Mentzer (Acaeum member ExTSR) who was running various Dungeons and Dragons games in several timeslots. Although Frank is best known for writing the five big basic box sets (BECMI), in this particular timeslot he was running Advanced Dungeons & Dragons (1st Edition). My understanding from our very brief encounter is that he tends to run a homespun system that is part Red Box D&D and part AD&D.

It was so very cool for me to meet someone that authored something that filled my childhood with great memories and he couldn't have been a nicer guy!

Had the great pleasure to meet Frank at the North Texas Convention last year and played in one of his games there.
Enjoyed visiting with him (before and after that session) and enjoyed playing in his game.

Frank is very approachable and willing to talk about the golden days at TSR or anything else you want to talk about. Same goes for Tim Kask - we talked more about travel baseball and soccer at Gen Con than anything else!

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

Not only do they wear helmets and pads, but the linemen are all clinically obese. Strong, for sure, but they can barely make it back to the bench for Gatorade and oxygen.

Real footballers run for 90 minutes. I'd take that supremely conditioned group of "girls" over the North American Football players any time.

Yes, I'm biased. I've played soccer for over 30 years now. How many lads who played youth/high school North American football still play once a week year-round? That's what I thought.
