Dragon Magazine... Dust Jackets?

I've seen reference to a Dust Jacket (or Dust Cover?) for early Dragon magazines. Can someone give me a little insight as to what this was? I know what a dust jacket is for a hardcover book, but I don't recall seeing them for magazines and the few pre-#100 Dragons I have don't seem to have them (I guess they were discarded by the original owner?). Did the dust jackets have images or printing on them?

I assume they're referring to the mailing covers on the early issues. If I recall correctly, they stopped using them before issue #10.

Mailing covers. TSR used to stick the mailing label on them when they shipped mags to subscribers.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

The dust jackets were brown in color and a little heavier than normal paper to lend protection to the cover during shipment. They had a black line drawing of a dragon (IRC). I know that the jackets went past issue 10 as I sold a near mint copy of Issue 16 with the dust jacket still attached for $65 at the Gencon 2007 auction.

i have mailing covers on issues 11 through 26. 20 years ago bill jaffe (the game collector) told me that he had them from issues 7-26.

I believe that different issues had different coloured mailing covers as well.

I think the run I used to have had covers starting at 7 as well, strat.

I provided Scott/Foul with scans of the mailing covers for The Dragon, Dragon (the brown paper wrappers---the two versions I'm aware of), and Dungeon (brown paper wrappers, one version), but I think they didn't make it into the last update.

I don't know all the numbers that came with "dust jackets", but I have many and they come in many colors,

I have brown, tan, yellow, light blue, medium blue, etc.

When I had a Dragon subscription in the late 80s, every issue came in a heavy brown paper mailing cover. It was a loose slip cover, not attached to the magazine. I don't remember any artwork. But I assume these are different from the early issue mailing covers.

okay i pulled my Dragons out so we can compare: my Dragon #11 has a yellow mailing cover #13 Medium blue #14 pale yellow #15 gold #16 tan #17 tan #18 tan #19 white (and the dragon is brown) #20 white (and the dragon is blue) #21 white (and the dragon is black) #22 white (dragon black) #23 red #24 pale green #25 light blue #26 tan working from memory i thought i had #12 but i don't.... so do other peoples copies synch up with these?

My covers start with #11-yellow, 12-gray(pale blue?), 13-medium blue, 14-tan and 15-medium blue.
