As a break between grading tests this weekend I've been keeping an eye on the RPG listings on Ebay.

Have prices for common RPG items gone through the roof or is this dreamland for sellers? I tend to think that sellers are doing so badly that they are pushing all prices high (which usually kills sales even more).

There seems to be an endless parade of overpriced common RPG items. The most overproduced TSR modules are priced in the $10-$20 range, 3rd party d20 and such have $10 minimum bods and every crap collection of modules is over $100

Just saw a rather beat collection with crown of ancient glory in worn looking condition sell for $170

Is anyone following these auctions to their conclusion? Is common much actually selling one ebay? (I don't believe it).

One theory is that people are home, need something to do, and are buying up what they remember (the more expensive items tend to be less well known) so they have something to do.  So common stuff is selling to players, but the collectors can't spend premium money these days, so that side is down.

Or maybe people are just crazy.

I think most people are neither collectors nor pack rats.  A lot of the common stuff is getting shipped around for use in gaming.  And, then, when people are done with it... especially things they bought cheap, or tore it up... I think they toss them out.  Also, when the prices drop too low, relative to the effort and ebay fees, most people will either toss stuff, or throw it in the attic hoping it is worth something some day.

But, right now... it's also gaming season.  Getting colder and people stay indoors and do indoors things for a few months.

It doesn't look to me like the bulk of these common items are actually selling, just the asking prices shooting up. Probably in a combination of wishful thinking and dire economic necessity, the desire being to get more for the stock you have. With ebay it is harder to track non-sales than sales since you can hit the completed transaction button, but can't hit the complete waste of listing fees button.

I will have to do some legwork on this and see what these various commons are actually selling for.

Let's break down that $170 bid:



Crown of Ancient Glory - Usually sells for around $30

Six Pastel modules - $60 (About $10 each)

G1-2-3 Series - $10 (yeah I know, on the high side...)

13 Other D&D Modules - $65 (Even at $5 each)

World of Greyhawk Folder (in the upper right hand corner) - $10

3.0 Ed. Monster Manual - $7

Then the extras that I can make out - A 3rd Printing GM screen, the WoG books (without the box), an Experts Handbook, and on the 2nd page a 3.0 Ed. D&D boxed set.



I don't think that those prices are unreasonable And if any of them are first printings, then it's more than worth the bid.

So if one of us did pick up the lot, because I'm guessing that a reseller picked it up (and if it was one of us), could you post the condition and printing of the modules please.
