The first person who can correctly identify where these two pieces of art were used(if they were published) will win a Thomas Baxa original piece of art that was used in one of the 2E Monstrous Compendiums(estimated value $50-$125).
 The guy I bought these from thought they were used by TSR.  As most of the other art he sold me was from TSR and they looked a bit familiar I went ahead and bought them.  The artist is Alex Stevens and one of the pieces has a 1978 date.  We have looked thru a lot of our stuff with no luck.  As the pieces are of an orc and a troll we thought they may have been used in a Tolkien game or non-TSR item.

I don't think so, his signature is clearly different....unless he changed it?  I don't think so.

Feel free to email him. It might get you a free piece of art if it's him and he knows what it was used in.  

Those drawings were made by the Alex Stevens linked above! He was quite surprised to see the two old pieces turn up. Unfortunately, he cannot remember where or if they were published, only that they were sent to TSR.

Heck, even I think I've seen that Troll... damn.
