This just fell in my lap and i was wondering what you guys think it might go for. As you can see it's first edition print except for chainmail and grayhawk thoes are 2nd and 3rd edition print,

For the OD&D rules, you'll find printing details on the front inside covers or title pages or the back insides covers; the specifics for those and the other booklets are covered on the linked pages.

You'll also want to check the direction of the woodgrain on the box:  does it run horizontally or vertically.  I don't recall where that's relevant, or even if we've determined anything definitive about that, but it seems that there were some directional shifts in the 2nd or 3rd printings IIRC.  I'm sure David, Paul, or someone else can chime in with corrections to my memory on that  (edit:  from your last pic, it looks like the woodgrain on the side panels runs sideways).  

In terms of handling, just be sure you're not in a position to spill your coke on them, etc.  If the OD&D booklets are third printings, they covers may be much-more fragile (from some comments David made recently), so you probably won't want to lay them flat for scanning.  

Otherwise, just treat them like you would any rare book:  no drinking glasses full of water/coke/etc. in the same area, don't smoke around them, don't store them in direct sunlight, don't sit on the box by accident, etc.

That's a wonderful gift from your friend.  It may also be interesting to know more about his father, in terms of who he is, when he bought the set, perhaps where, if he has other D&D items of note, etc.

What do you guys think of the condention of these things ?

Well im trying to get a handle on how much they cost so i can prepair for selling.

I'd hope that were the case, otherwise donate them to the NTRPGCon auction run through here.
If you go the ebay route though, please dont accept a private BIN offer that you WILL get, but let them run their time.
I'd not sell yet if I were you though.
