Nice article that runs all of about 15 sentences including quotes from GC Ownership.

And what do we find after about six sentences in a paragraph all to its own. And pretty much the only description of the event.

Many of them are known for donning wild, elaborate costumes and staying up all night to play card and table games with friends and strangers.

And to go with the article we have a picture of some broad dressed as fairy.

This is the image of GC today. Long live the old Gen Con, Gen Con is DEAD.

And I could've bought these damn modules off the 1$ rack!!!

She is beautiful.

I passed her in the hall as she was posing for a picture and I thought the costume looked pretty sweet. Then she finished posing for the pic and the wings retracted - they were controlled by fishing line attached to her hands. That was truly impressive.

As long as it's a broad, and not a dude dressed as a fairy I'm ok. Broads dressed in skimpy chainmail bikinis and leotards...thumbs up. Dudes dressed like Peter Pan (Sorry, Jason) or anime cartoon characters..thumbs down. :puker:

We need to beef up the costume quotient for next year's NTRPG Con. Anyone (besides Jason Braun) volunteer to dress up?

Nobody has made any comments about the story at Indystar.com. The locals must too confused by Gen Con to say anything.

The lack of good reporting is due to the fact that the Indianapolis Star is damn near bankrupt. They have gone through several reductions in workforce. They can barely report on anything.

Those overalls weren't geeky back then.

Also, the message of the ad is effective. The target is mom, who sees kids around the table in her kitchen rather than hanging around bored and getting into trouble. To mom, that kid in the overalls with the slightly sullen look is her son and she sees a clear benefit to the game.

But don't kid yourself...it was always geeky.

In fact, there's a good chance that's what attracted you and I to the hobby in the first place.

Looking at that kid, I reckon he's got a lot of anger issues - but then if you're 15 and your mum still chooses your clothes, then you can't really blame the boy

I am sure it actually worse. Specifically late 70s.

However, those kids are dressed "normally" for that time period. Note the absence of fairy wings, plastic swords, darth vader helmets, tights (on men), leather kilts, anime costumes, fake pirate gear, stuffed animals on shoulders, etc...
