One really has to ask one's self, what sort of business man reuns a company where he doesn not scrutinise, and is not aware of, the money being spent by his staff. There is definately fault on the part of the plaintiff, even if it just that he was negligent and stupid.

One man comits a criminal act and it is deffinately wrong. But if the other man allows the same man to continually and perpetually comit crimes against him, and he is neither able to detect, nor aware that it is happening, then he is bringing it on himself. If it were not this member of staff, it would have been another.

If you walk around downtown at night flashing a roll of $100 bills and you get mugged, you're asking for it. Either you are just stupid, ignorant or negligent. But a crime has occurred.

But.. If you walk around downtown at night every week flashing rolls of $100 bills, and you always wake up with a bloody face and you seem to have spent all your money, and you do it every week for five f'cking years, then you are definately asking for it. It doesn't excuse who robs you, but it certainly doesn't warrant any simpathy either.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

He definitely placed his trust in the wrong person and compounded that with a clearly inadequate level of oversight. I still sympathize with him however - to have your life's work nearly destroyed by the actions of one person is something I wouldn't wish on anyone.

I agree. To have your entire life's work undermined and almost destroyed by your own ignorance and incompetance. The guy must be eaten up by recriminations of how appaulingly bad he ran his business.

I have a friend who at 30yo had a personal fortune of £10M+ from his company, and he was thinking of buying his own minor league football team (a childhood dream). By 32yo it was all gone. Glasgow gangland had wormed their way in to his management staff and they brough the entire empire and everyone down with it. He lost everything. Bankrupsy.

That said, he doesn't blame the criminal element that moved in on his business, but he recognises that that is the nature of criminality, and the problem was that he never managed, scrutinised, oversaw, and was not watchful of these things. He's young enough to start again, and wiser for it.

But let's face it, the guy is an idiot. Pure and simple. It's wrong that criminals take advantage of the idiots in our society. It's wrong that muggers pick on the foolish and the stupid. But I have no simpathy for an idiot that signs away hundreds of thousands of dolars to a guy every year for more than half a decade, and doesn't want to know the where's and why's about where his money is going. He needed to learn a leason, and maybe he won't be so stupid again.

Didn't the same thing happen to Palladium a few years ago?
I always wonder how much of these situations are exacerbated by denial. "We had no idea" seems like BS. If you're getting ripped off for that long (at those numbers) you're an incompetent moron.

Note: They make a big deal about his lack of education, "flunked out of college" and then he's in charge of all the finances in the millions of dollars
Double note: I wonder if they took the kid who mowed the lawn and put him in charge of their International distribution system or something.

Triple note!! I wonder if they went in the back and hired the dishwasher guy at "Julios Tacos" and asked him to be the lead designer for the Middle Earth card game when they got those rights?

Quadruple note!!!! I wonder if they were driving along and saw some kid with a lemonade stand on the corner and said to themselves, "Well there's an enterprising young lad" and they hired him on the spot to formulate a 5 and 10 year Decipher company plan

Proper accounting controls are important, as are independent audits.

I wonder if they issued one of those "company credit cards" to the night janitor?
That guy is a Schmoe though for sure! What kind of loser steals 9 million or something and spends more at Old Navy than Nordstrom?

Agreed, my entire career has been in Audit and/or Corporate security handling fraud investigations. Unfortunately, this is not too uncommon in all businesses large, mid-size or small.

Some of the frauds are caught earlier having less of an impact and some can go on like Madoff for about 20 years to an amount of 50 billion....

Reading through the thing: Just look on page 23 to see how incompetent those "victims" are :? They just appear to be stupid from that whole transcript. They highlight how stupid they were even 8O

You know I was thinking the same thing.. don't hire childhood friends, family, relatives is all I can say, hire the best person for the job but if you do make sure they know what they are doing.. no one else to blame but themselves (hay he went Bankrupt for a reason I guess).. he didn't seem to be on a lot of money $120k a year so that might have had something to do with it.. your childhood freind is mking millions and you are living on his coat tails as he tosses you a couple of bucks..

"Do you think you deserve their trust again?"

"I would like to think I could earn their trust again, don't think that I will I don't know."

What a classic, your joking right? $8.9million? A very cold day in hell .... fool me once shame on you , fool me twice shame on me!

The whole damn company was incompetent, and to be honest, deserved everything that it got. There wasn't an evolved intelligent human being among them, except perhaps the guy who screwed them.

I agree with people saying that Warren Holland was a very, very bad manager of his money and his company but the person to depise is the thief, not Holland. Holland was naive, but he is a victim. The other one was a damned bastard, a thief, a liar and a person I'd love to see suffering his entire life and - hopefully - beyond.
