For the sake of discussion, I've openned a new thread.

ScketreWhisp® wrote:If you are serious about the ½ or ¼ print of the PotVQ let me know.

I have permission from Pete to reprint, flesh out, redo PotVQ should the desire and time hit me :)

I almost printed some ½ copies for the NTRPG Con this year, just ran out of time :)

Excellent. So how about a half or quarter size reprint? Would love to see this in a little black folder. Limited quantities or general release doesn't bother me much.

So we have someone with permission to reprint.
I'm up for putting in time and expertise if I can contribute.
It might be good to explore the detail on a separate thread, so as not to hijack this one.

So;

1. Do we xerox and clean up an existing image, or retypeset?

It's a lot more work to clean up existing scanned images, but I could give that a go with my existing PDF.

@SW: I presume you have Brad's OK on the artwork, too?

I'd take a small-sized copy cleaned up or not. I'm just really excited about a possible opportunity to get to read this!

If there is anything I can do to help, I'm happy to dip in.  :D

I have no skills at anything in the way of doing something like this, or in helping to get it done.
Cant draw, cant write, cant edit.... Have no money either.....

I do however, have a great interest in this project going forward with all due haste.
I will therefore be one of the folks saying HELL YES!

Doug can say definitively, but I believe the item would have to be "Morno-less" if it is done.  I don't think he gave the ok on the artwork, but I could be wrong.

My recollection from conversations with Doug @ NTXRPGCon is that he got the verbal OK for the artwork, but nothing in writing, and wanted more than that to go on???

Here's hoping! :D

I think a digest sized black folder version would be nice :)

Okidoki.
Which artwork is in question? The bordered paper? The Maps? The black foldered cover image?
I have the module at 300dpi (maybe even 600dpi, but I'd need to check). I do need a decent clear scan of the black folder cover, and picies of how it is folded. What are the odds of being able to find someone who can foil stamp leathergrain card? So I guess this'll end up black and red laser.
Will see if I can colour match the paper, but not having an original and knowing how badly yellows are reproduced by digital cameras, I might need to post samples to people for colour matching.

I would suggest a digest-sized black foldered loose leaf is in order, for two reasons. Firstly, it clearly defines it as a modern reprint product meant to mimic a specific edition for a reason, and secondly, folder aside, the printing does not require binding.

Ok, to answer a few questions:

Pete said I could reprint the module as is (this was made is both phone conversations and emails... though I'd prefer to get something signed by Pete ... still working on that, he is hard to keep in touch with).

He says he owns all content in the module, even the artwork by Brad (the artwork was done to pay rent to Pete at the time and his agreement with Brad was that he could use the art however he wanted).

I spoke to Judy as well, since the cover art for the black folder was her art, she also gave permission (via email) to use it to reprint for this project as well.

I did call Brad, just to see if he would give permission to use his art (even though Pete said it was okay). Brad was short, said he didn't do that type work anymore, and wasn't interested and hung up. Not what I was looking for, but also wasn't any type of "no"... and I doubt I get the time of day if I continue to call and ask. But I have sent emails asking just in case I get a response.

My original thoughts were to print a the module after "fleshing" it out. If you have ever seen the module, it's rather scarce in detail and pretty "lame" for lack of a better term.

I figured each new page could be followed by a copy of the original page, so one could compare the differences between the original and the reprint. Figured someone could do new art, fill in room descriptions, create a story line etc.

I also was looking to put it in a bound book for something along 25-30 pages (original + reprint ~ 26 pages if printed front/back) This would give a couple of pages for some history and print version info.

I did ask Pete if he'd be willing to sign a limited number of copies, and again, no response on this yet.

So, that's all the thinking I have done, nothing beyond that. I have been offered help from a small press to get it printed.

If you are interested in some cartography for the module I could do that. I have experience with doing remakes of older products. (Badabaskor)

I think it is a good idea to have the original and the fleshed version side by side.

How about a black folder with the original facsimile, and a saddle stitched booklet containing the newer expanded version? That way you get something akin to the original feel of the original presentation, and a professional press production of the new draft.

That sounds like a very cool idea to me; sort of like a Role-Aids-like pocket folder, perhaps?  I have no idea what the original folder is like (if it has pockets or not, or just flaps, or nothing at all), but being able to replicate the original format, while still allowing for an updated version would be pretty cool.

I think the original folder was a simple bi-fold, but adding a couple of little flaps at the bottom that fold up would allow for somethin to be kept in either side, and give rigidity along the bottom edge.

The original card of the black folder is still available, or at least something very similar is (matt black with a slight leather type pressed grain), but I'd be amazed if we could find someone who could red foil emboss, especially in small quantities.

The rewriting of the module is something I'd be absolutely hopeless at, but then I am sure this board is awash with talented individuals who can do that; and getting something typeset and saddle stitched is something the board has experience of anyways. So no worries there.

The original black folder is one like you'd have bought for school back in the day... it has pockets at the bottom on both sides.

It's heavy black "construction" paper type material.

I think if we were going to replicate the original, it would have to be 1/2 size or something to help keep it a replica (I'd hate for someone to ever get duped into thinking it was an original).

I sort of like the single book with each page next to a copy of the original, though that's not set in stone by any means.

I am actually trying to convince Judy to get her mom to sell me all the extra Black Folders she uses for filing. Response form Judy is slow as well... Then there could be a limited group that come in or with an original folder.... though I'd have to imprint something on these folders to show they were never actually sold/distributed with a module.

That would be sweet too.
And HAVE to increase the value of the Re-Production copies for those older foldered sets at least.
