Well you know i'm in. Bracton is a great dm folks....

two more have signed up to play (making 4 total), but we still need two more players. mark (bracton) is thinking of a friday morning start so as not to interfere with auction times. any more takers? i guarantee you an epic event. mark has been crafting his world for nearly 30 years and it is incredibly well developed, believable and enjoyable.

I'm real tempted, but I haven't convinced myself I'm going yet after doing Origins.

Tim's game is Thursday, around noon.  I'm in that too, so there is no chance of a conflict there.  Though, given what Tim has said, there may be a bunch of us who don't survive the first encounter, so we may have some time on our hands then anyway.    

I'm open to changing times, if it helps get us to six players; though right now Friday morning seems to be the preference of those who have responded.  Jeff, does that work for you?  And Malc, what time and day would work for you?

I've never been to Origins, so I don't really know.  But from the posted reports, GenCon sounds a lot better for RPGs.  If it would help you decide, come to GenCon, put something up in the auction, let me know what it is, and I'll pretend you're Badmike and overpay outrageously for it.  

Anyway, if this time works for Jeff, I've got at least four, and I'll go ahead and start working on the adventure.  But I'd really prefer six to eight, so if anyone is attending and is interested, send me a PM or reply here.

Ok, I've convinced myself to make the journey again this year.  Yeah, like there was a lot of arm twisting there.  Put me down if you still have room for another.  Oh, my son will likely be along as well.  It will be good to see you guys again after meeting last year.

Three weeks to go to GenCon.  Time for some background on the game.  A couple people have said they may make it, but aren't definite.  So on a first-come-first-served basis, there's still a couple slots available.  If you can make it, let me know.     I'll be posting follow-up to this background, along with the available character classes and races, in the next week or so.

These -- most folks in the Western Provinces would agree -- must be the waning days of the Second Attacaran Empire.  Once the imperial writ ran the length of the continent, from the eastern sea to the western sea, from Urbarr to Tarthus.  Now, the lands west of the Khalkis Spine, the north-to-south mountain range which nearly cuts the continent in half, are almost forgotten. Velet'ra, Abaalatos, Kashadis, Sidja and the lands of the Daruni'i, east of the mountains, have become the Western Provinces.  The Emperor -- in Orrodon, far to the east -- remains childless, despite the presumed best efforts of his five wives, all of whom he has put to the sword for failing to deliver an heir.  The Great Families of Attacaria dance to a siren song of greed and power.  And the Grand Patriarch broods in his city of Rashnagar, a sullen and unwilling servant of the Empire.  For those near the borders, there is no missing the stink of rot, decay and decline.

And yet . . . the power of the Empire remains something to be both feared and respected.  Last year a rebellion in the southern province of Sanadoria was crushed by the imperial legions.  At the end, the lords who had sided with the rebels, and those who sided with no one -- together with their entire families -- were slaughtered, many impaled on stakes or drawn and quartered.  Men loyal to the emperor were given their lands.  And so now Sanadoria is quiet.

It is late spring in the 1883rd year of the Second Attacaran Empire.

You have come early to a festival at the city of Un'drapur, in the Western Province of Kashadis, where you have business to do.  The fields to the north of the city walls are filling with variegated tents, carts of itinerant peddlers, poets and jugglers, farmers come to sell their spring crops, pavilions of nobles and their retainers and jousting grounds.  Folk are arriving from throughout the Western Provinces, and beyond.  There are Elves from Tinalvinar and Dwarves from Arnthrasir, desert nomads from Insadar and men of the jungle from Hespasia far to the south.  For Un'drapur is a fulcrum of the west, a crossing of roads and paths.  It lies at the northwestern end of a small spur of peaks, north of the Veledrian Mountains and close to the Tsinan Pass.  Through the festival will pass thieves and beggars, wily traders, dukes, princes, prelates and spies.  So . . . folks just such as you.

Even this far west, the hand of the Empire still reaches out to grasp what it can.  As you settle in, you learn that an imperial prince, a nephew of the Emperor, has already arrived, carousing, wenching and fighting in the manner of the royal family.  And any day now, the Emperor's regent is expected, to officially open the festival.

You set up your tent in the fields north of the city, and begin pursuing the business that brought you here to Un'drapur.
