Is this mold?

I recently acquired a bunch of items, and a few items have water damage, including the expected rust. But I'm not sure whether the damaged items are also moldy.

For those of you with mold experience, do any of these pictures show mold? I'm particularly worried about the dots, both large & small:

Sure is man. Those black dots, and especially the last picture, are mold for sure. Stay away from my collection!! ;)

As the others have said, yep, it's mold.  If you haven't already, take a gander at our mold articles in the library: http://www.acaeum.com/library/library.html

Above all, do *not* bring these items in proximity to the rest of your collection.  Think of mold as a paper virus.

Thanks. Sadly that's what I figured.

They don't have an obvious odor. Not that that helps.

I separated them from the rest of the items in that batch as soon as I discovered them, and the rest of the items are in quarantine relative to my own collection.

Will do some more reading...

The map in the background of the first two pictures is from DDA4 The Dymrak Dread. (The booklet depicted in those two pictures is from that module.)

The map in the 4th picture that actually has mold on it is WGR1 Greyhawk Ruins.

The local trash man gets to add those (and several other items) to his collection tomorrow :)

...unless somebody here wants to make me an offer on them ;)

You could try experimenting with bleach to kill the mold and clean the paper.  Maybe iron the map after it dries . . . dunno.

I used bleach on some old Superior miniature boxes, and it cleaned the mold and mildew off; the boxes warped slightly, but they were headed to the trash otherwise.

I'll have to look at the affected modules again to see whether the effort is worth it. Some of them were damaged in other ways, with shredded spines and/or badly damaged covers. Some of them were also incomplete, missing relevant maps and/or stand-up counters.

If WGR1 appears salvageable, I might spend the effort on it, but I honestly don't recall whether it was one of the shredded ones.

Bumping this as I have just received a Volo's Guide that was supposed to be in 'Good used' condition, but has some staining and marks.

I will try and post pics for advice, but I can't find anymore pics on the site that show mould and what it may look like other than these.
