I'm heading to Origins tomorrow. If anyone else plans to go stop by the auction and say hello! I'll be one of the lead auctioneers. Last year we had some excellent RPG collectibles come up for auction. Though Origins isn't as RPG focused as Gencon it's certainly worth going if you are near by or if can find the time to travel and visit.

I'd be happy to keep my eyes open for anything special anyone is looking for as well. Just send me an email offline.

It was me bidding against the Troll & Toad flunkie sitting up front on most of the RPG items I was interested in...  

I won't be bidding too much on stuff this year (but it was kinda cool to see the M:TG unlimited booster pack box go for 10K).

I'll be stopping over and saying hello...

thats the good thing about GenCon...there are plenty of Acaeum guys there and them kinda people (T&T types...) generally get blown out of the water way before the bids get even modestly interesting...so it then becomes a lot of fun.

i can only hope some of the bidding goes like that for you guys. never give up

Because there was a 3rd edition printing of chainmail attached to that very nice looking white box  

And you know, when you get into the bidding in a really bad way , and it was bid up to ~ 300US. Luckily for me I was not the last man standing.

What I did want though, was the prehistoric dice. But I think that that set sold for ~600US

ORIGINS RECAP

The Good:

- Generic Tickets could be purchased at their own booth (you didn't have to stand in line with the regular ticket people..). I was able to get into all my RPG events with generics.

- My Garycon T-Shirt got as many compliments as my RUSH (2007 Snakes and Arrows) T-Shirt, and my Jesus Saves (and takes half damage) T-Shirt.

- It was a Buyer's Market at the Origins dealers area. Everything was reduced in price by Sunday (Talisman 4.0(?) for $25.00, DCC#51 for 39.00) DCC Boxed sets for 5.00 each (as previously mentioned).

- The rpg auction items went for cheap, since there wasn't a lot of action. They weren't super rare, but I did pick up a few items I was looking for. There were a lot more wargamer bidders at the auction, and a lot more wargames that sold well.

- There was a BBQ place at the food court, and it was good (not as good as Doug's BBQ, but respectable for an outlet store).

The Bad:

- Low Turnout. The economy is bad, and attendance was down at least 25%. Where at Gencon the aisles were packed with people, the aisles at Origins were wider and sparse.

- Same with the auction... it was me, the T&T dude, JCP, and a couple of others bidding on a few RPG items. Good for me, bad for the sellers...

- Krema Nut Company did not open their food outlet this year, so no PB&J's for dinner...  

The Ugly:

- Theft at the auction. Someone stole the computers that T&T were using. Must have been someone not smart, since they just took the computers and left the gaming stuff there.

- No Rares at the auction. The "Big Items" in the glass case were Arduin Grimore dungeons #1-#4 (~ 25.00 ea), and the million year old dice (~700 US).

I had fun at the con. I got to play the new Hackmaster Basic (the game system using the Legends of Kalamar campaign), Heroes of Rogukan, and Fellowship of the White Star (the unofficial sequel to the Living Death campaign setting).

ps. cool on the t-shirts tho...always good to get compliments like that. my nephew had a good one yesterday "sex, drugs and sausage rolls" was rather amusing
