eBay evil new search now default and can't opt out?

It seems like the opt-out for the rotten new eBay search is now gone. Is it just me???

The "My Ebay" page has changed to the new default and is now impossible to opt out of but for me the search is still the old standard. I had to opt out (for the twentieth or so time) about a month ago but havent seen the "new and improved" Ebay search rear its ugly head since then.

It seems to have returned: perhaps not all of the search pages/windows have been standardized on one vs. the other search yet??

I should send them some feedback: the new search engine sucks.

I'm not sure about the new search yet. But Ebay.com has forced me into their new "MyEbay" format and I don't like it much. If you go to Ebay.ca though, they still use the old style.

Yep. Wait until they start erasing your searches saying "No, we think you meant THESE words instead" when you enter a word they don't understand..... :evil:

That's how it has always been -- I'll try something relatively simply, like "Guidon" (in quotes no less) and it'll return anything with the word "guide" which pisses me off to no end. I have to like triple quote and use "-GUIDE" before it even attempts to find the stuff I'm actually looking for, and then it finds nothing.

My other concern is that searching with the Title + Desc box checked vs. just Title often finds different results (in both search engines, but the new one seems a worse offender); same thing happens with the Worldwide box, too (which seems to work sporadically at best).

Your choice of search and display layout (old or new) are stored in your cookies folder. Even if they remove the 'opt out' button in the top right, you can delete the cookies and at the moment it defaults back to the old style.

Aside, for those of you who like big pictures to increase your sales, and host them off site, eBay's new display will prevent these photos from being displayed and shrink them down to eBay's chosen large size anyways. So it looks like your customers only get small images regardless of how you want your auction to look. It levels the playing field for all those sellers who can't be arsed taking good photos, and makes sure that any extra time and expence you go to over and above the basic eBay layout can't be recouped in extra sales revenue.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

I think I figured out the Worldwide search. It will pull in matches from other ebay sites (uk, fr, de, ...) if the seller there has indicated worldwide shipping, otherwise it won't. So if you're in the US and you want to REALLY search elsewhere, you have to go to that site directly and search... and then ask a seller if they will ship internationally.

They've done that for a while on eBay.ca. Even before the new search interface went up.

(And can still opt out on eBay.ca. I honestly don't find the new search all that bad. The new My eBay though...)

I got hit with the new search last night but was able to opt out thankfully. One thing I noticed is that you can't do excludes only anymore. A common search I do in the DnD section is

-(3rd,3.5,3.0,3e,3.5e,third,4th,4.0,4e,fourth)

Now it returns an error that I need to include a search word. I am definitely not looking forward to when the new search becomes the only search. :evil:

Hi,

I got hit with the new search a couple of days ago - I think its now mandatory in the UK.

However, it DOES allow negative searches for me.

For what it's worth, I am still able to use negative searches as well. Under the category of Role Playing Games, I like to use the following to eliminate items & sellers that I typically do not want to browse through:
-(card*,dice,figur*,minatur*,mini*,reward*,star wars,token*) and
Exclude: trollandtoadstore . . . as they seem to have swamped eBay with their inventory.

BTW Malc, I really liked your icon . . . I found it quite hypnotic

"Okay, we turn the corner and see a Purple 'WHAT' !?!" . . (the DM rolls a 20 or so he says) . . It all went black right after that.
