This is a very interesting read.  There is apparently already an offer on the table.  Unfortunately it's already a bit over my budget.

http://www.livingdice.com/783/gen-con-f ... s-pending/

Seems like the offer was rejected.

Hi,

apparently it was a hostile takeover out of Kentucky to oust Peter Adkinson.

Cheers,

This has all the markings of Troll and Toad trying to take over Gen Con officially...

That would be one of the worst things I could possibly think of.  :?

Jeez. I've been wondering all day "Who in Kentucky would make a play for Gen Con?"  Yours is a disturbingly believable answer.

I agree.  Both disturbing and believable.

8O

I do.  There's a big difference between a company run by someone who deeply loves gaming and by a corporate dumbass out to make money.

See the history of TSR, as an example.

Wow, we are all on the same wavelength, because I thought the EXACT same thing once I read the story.......

So what if T&T owns GenCon... big deal. Attendance fees jump to $100 / day, with a shipping rate to send them FedEx 5-day at the unbelievably low cost of only $40, and then, when you finally get them, they're tickets for an Indianapolis Colts game... from three years ago.

Yeah, that'd pretty much rock.

For my .02, I by no means really "know" Peter but I've had several opportunities to sit around discussing "things".  There are only a few people I know of who I would trust Gencon to other than Peter and all but two of them have already told me they're not involved with nor do they know anything about GAG.

Maybe the Auction Charity should go to "Gencon" this year?!?!?!

SERIOUSLY!  Consider recent events and the expected economy in 2009!

It may not be tax deductible and Gencon would have to report it as income but hey, if you're only giving if you can get a tax break then your heart is in the wrong place!

I'd try to say it better, but I couldn't.
