I posted the details on my facebook profile a few days ago, and thought I should share here, too. Here's the short version: on Friday morning last week, I called my doctor about some funky back pain I had over the previous two days, and after some back and forth of describing the symptoms, she had me go to the ER to rule out a possible anterior heart attack vs. the back muscle pain we expected it to be.

It turns out not to have been back pain. I had what they're terming a "micro heart attack" that didn't cause any damage to my heart or arteries, but did leave some chemical tell-tales in my blood. So, they admitted me to the hospital for a bunch of tests on Friday (that confirmed my coronary and arterial high HP totals) and observation through Sunday. I returned to work normally on Monday, and I'm in perfectly good shape now. I've got some more follow-ups on Monday and Tuesday (my first was today), when I'll learn more about all of this, and I'll post to my FB profile as I learn stuff.

Damn...I went through a two week stint of back pain recently. Almost constant pain. But it didnt seem "weird" or anything so I just chalked it up to a muscle strain. Finally took some muscle relaxers and havent had a problem since. Now I am going to become paranoid every time my back starts to give me problems. Thanks Allan. :wink:

That is what they told me when I got my law degree, but my doctor made me lose 95 lbs on the theory that since I bled, I probably did have a heart after all

I'm glad Grodog is ok, one worries these days as all the old friends seem to be dropping like flies.

grodog, I'm glad you are feeling better. Stay on top of this! My father died unexpectedly from a heart attack at age 53, and the autopsy showed he had previously had several undetected "small" heart attacks. These were significant enough to scar the heart tissue, but probably just gave "flu-like" symptoms that he shrugged off. And then the big one hit. It's really good that you have realized what has happened, because the doctors are good at treating this stuff once it's detected. My wife's father had a heart attack in his late 50's, had a bypass, and has been doing great for 20+ years.

Very sorry to hear about this (gone though it myself though the diabetes is pretty much the cause for me). You're a great guy and a gentlemen. Glad they caught the signs of this. Ive been bopping along causing trouble for the last seven years afterwards so I know its a shock at first but something you manage with a bit of care and it fades into the background of daily living and breathing.
