I was looking at the 4 ultra rares that are up for sale at the moment. Say the sell for their guestimated reserve of $6K I would be paying £4K. This time last year it would have been £3K. The global recession/credit crunch is killing the value of the £. It looks like it may even drop less than $1.50/£1. Its starting to make importing D & D from the US a no go. :cry:

How is it effecting prices for everybody else? I'm thinking I should be listing all my items on the US ebay as the strong dollar should bump up the winning bids :?:

I'm in the same boat... I'm going to be bidding on a couple more TSR auctions to finish off most of my 1st-2nd ed and then that it for a while..

Yeah same here. The US$ / A$ were almost at parity in early July 1 Aussie dollar bought 98 cents US. It has plunged to 65 cents!!! So I am trying to crub my spending right back.

For a year or so, I have benefited from a marvelous â‚¬/$ currency (topping 1.6). The last two weeks have been a disaster, since the currency plunged down to pre-2003 values. Since 2003, I had never seen the currency go under 1.3.

I find it very hard to understand why all the other currencies are falling against the greenback. You would think as this global crisis originated there, the greenback would weaken!

Same thing here in Canada as well. We were even with the USD and even worth a little more for a short time too. But now we've dropped almost 25%.

It is strange bit of economics. My guess is that part of it has to do with the dropping price of oil. Since the US imports most of what they use the price drop has come as a big relief. On the flip side, it makes Canada's export of oil worth less in comparison.

It doesn't seem like the financial crisis of the banks is much of a factor.

And just be thankful the American dollar is what oil is based off of so gas and petrol are dropping each day now.

You're absolutely right, and I wondered the very same thing a couple weeks back. I found this article, which explains the issue quite well, in my opinion:

I find I've been cruising ebay.uk a bit more lately... Cdn hasn't declined much at all compared to other currencies... mostly it's just more expensive to buy US. Probably, I'll be working on my UK fanzine collection for the time being.

Woo hoo..time to buy from other countries. Give me all your rares!

I would expect a fair number of items to be repatriated :wink:

add on that people make money from nose-diving currencies + general volatilty. saw uk pound lose 6-7% in 3-4 hours last week then recover 3-4% in next hour or two. oz dollar had larger dive but did not recover for whatever reason. is not all natural readjustment am sure + crazyness spread from stock markets
