I've heard talk about a 4e deadline for 3rd party companies, after which they cannot produce or sell items that use the OGL, mention D20 or 3e/3.5

This seems like more than just an industry rumor but I'm not sure of the specifics or the deadline (if there is one). I've heard talk on Paizo about Oct 1st. I'm mainly wondering how long Goodman games has to sell their backstock of DCCs.

At this point I'm surprised that more of their backstock hasn't sold out.

Trying to go from memory..I believe companies that switch have until the end of the year to sell back stock, and can't produce anything after Oct 1st for 3e/3.5/OGL.  Will have to see how the GSL is come Oct 1st and if companies still unsigned convert over or go in another direction.
I only see a small percentage of companies releasing 4e.

It only pertains to using the D20 trademark not for producing OGL material. The license for OGL material can't be revoked as long as the terms are being met.

This is how companies like Judges Guild (I believe this was posted elsewhere) would get screwed, since they could not make product for 1.0 and 4.0 at the same time... too bad...

Keep in mind that the summary was written before WotC started answering questions about it, and IIRC some WotC folks pointed out some important inaccuracies about the summary.

In particular, I think there were some clarifications about section 6.1 where WotC said that they want it to be okay for a single publisher to publish both OGL and GSL stuff so long as they use two different product lines to do so. (It would be easy to make an end-run around a rule that forbids a company from making both OGL and GSL stuff, so WotC presumably decided to be pragmatic.)

And throw the expected/upcoming revision of the GSL into the mix (more lenient, based on feedback from possible GLS adopters), and I don't think it's safe to make too many assumptions about how the GSL will ultimately work.

But boy I do like the OGL. Awesome stuff.

That's the old GSL, they are working to change somethings so shall have to see.

Does this mean that Goodman game won't need to discontinue the original DCC modules after all?

As of the current GSL, they aren't allowed to produce OGL DCC modules now that they have produced GSL DCC modules. The DCC line has switched, and thus according to the GLS, it can't go back.

But the upcoming GSL revision means anything could change...
