I walked down into the TV room yesterday, and my wife was watching some show on Sci Fi channel.  She didnt know what it was, but said I would like it because it reminded her of all the computer games I like to play.  I sat down and started watching.  They started dropping words like Lich, Gem of Seeing and other names/words from the D&D world.

Me:  did they just say Lich?!
Wife:  I think so.  do you know what that means?
Me:  yea, its an undead wizard.
Wife:  you really are a nerd.

I was hooked, and watched the rest of the movie.  OVerall bad acting, horrible effects and it was hard to follow, but I still enjoyed myself (I usually never watch movies).  Only AFTER the movie was over did I see that it was some D&D movie from 2005.  I know there was an earlier D&D movie (circa 2000 ish?) that I never watched, but this was much newer.
Was this a straight to DVD type movie?  A Sci Fi original?  

I got me thinking that a live action weekly series based on D&D would be fuggin awesome.  They could even base each episode(s) on actual modules and stuff.  Theres alot of possibilities.  I dont think you could ever run out of ideas for stories.

I wish I had hollywood clout.

There was an old TV movie that was clearly D&D inspired. The effects sucked, the costumes mostly sucked, but the acting was like watching a bunch of gamers getting the chance to act out their game. It was great in a slightly awful way. There have been other TV movies of the same vein but this one really captured the game experience. I could hear the dice rolling.

One guy had a magic bow (I think), there was a thief, orc like characters, but the rest is just a vague memory. I'd love to watch it again, but I've never come across it again.

Wrath of the Dragon God wasn't "Great", by any stretch but it was 1000% times better than the first movie.  Everything else (acting, effects, etc.) aside, they at least tried to tie it into D&D.  Mentions of The Tomb of Horrors and The Barrier Peaks (and a few others), the Greyhawk Gods, etc.  At least it seemed like they TRIED with this one.
