So often I bid on auctions and watch them go through the roof and past the price of similarly priced items on Ebay. You often see people pay $50 for something when they could get it for a $20 BIN. It inspired a poll.

Have you done this and how often? I have, I got excited about a TSR button bought at an early Gencon and thought, wow this must be rare. Bid $10 before checking on its real value. After bidding, I discovered you can buy them 6 for $10! doh!

No.

If you hit a Rowsdower, you get to keep it.

I went with "once or twice" ... I'm reasonably cautious.

The one I remember was overpaying for an out-of-print book. Except that it was in print. And at Amazon for a nice discount.

Depends. See, I don't "search" like the normal person - when I look for something its of these:

1) ending in the next hour

2) a BIN started within the hour

3) a lot

So, I will sometimes pay more than I should, but that's because I'm not actually looking to see what is there... unless I'm trying to find something very specific which is rare. I tend to just go with what I can get.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

My problem is I sometimes see an old RPG product, often non-TSR and think 'wow that looks old and rare'. I look it up in Schick's book. That whets my apetite even more. And then I bid without remembering to check. I do it rarely - but vast numbers of people seem to do it all the time - otherwise we wouldn't have a silliest price thread!!!
