Seems like a good time to come forth with our list of favorites.  Out of everything Gary wrote (and published) in his lifetime, what's your all-time number one?  The OD&D rulebooks, Chainmail, adventures, sourcebooks, whatever.

Mine is probably the Giants series.  Incredible fun.

I get to say it before anyone else?

The Keep On The Borderlands of course.

G series is the best but i have grown increasingly more fond of D1 over the years.

Dungeon masters guide.  Brilliant book for its time!  First real comprehensive rules of the game.  I believe I have is somewhat memorized :)

Someone already mentioned B2, which is my personal favorite.

I guess #2 would be the Lejendary Adventure rules, which I definitely think are under-appreciated among old-schoolers.

I am torn between the G series and the DMG.
The modules provided many hours of enjoyment, and the DMG after all these years still seems to provide many buried nuggets of gaming goodness.  :D

Check out my Chaosium sourcebook.

All time greatest hits?

For me, in no particular order:

Chainmail
Original D&D
Dungeon Masters Guide
Monster Manual
Players Handbook
B2 Keep on the Borderlands
G1 through G3, D1 through D3
T1
S1
Necropolis
WG4
S4
S3
(it's hard not to put all of his modules on this list)
his work on Castles & Crusades

This will be like the third thread where I get to remind everyone of the incredible impact of T1 ... not only a mini-campaign setting, but still the best low-level setting in RPG history.

If you look on the credits page, you'll see that one of the ingredients used to make T1 was "pure awesomeness."

mine will always be the G and D series that led onto one of my all-time fave modules. they are a great series and played/DMd well, can be a legendary campaign on their own.

but as X says, T1 is a classic. so much you can do with it.

i like the G series overall though, due to its more "old school" feel for me. little descriptive and you have to DM it well to make it what it is.

DMG must rank as #1 for this list, no question. Plus we've got to account for the mostly ghostwritten material like Q1 that's by someone else, but with GG on the cover.

Within the context of :  "Out of everything Gary wrote (and published) in his lifetime"

GORD THE ROGUE Series

David Sutherland III. Gygax writes in the preface: "My only contributions have been some brief notes, a monster, a bit of editing, and this introductory piece."

None of this info appears in the later one-volume GDQ. By that time, Gygax has stated that T$R was slapping his name on all manner of stuff he didn't touch.
