Hi,

after having an unbroken positive Ebay feedback running to over 1000, some nob-end has accidentally left me a neutral.

He quite freely admits it was a mistake, and should have been a positive, but he was doing a lot at once, and it was an accident.

Apparently, he can't retract it, and the best we can do is a mutual withdrawal.

So, the question is, which looks worse:
having a Neutral feedback or
having a Mutual Withdrawal?

I know this is nit-picking, but the guy has got up my nose rather
and the Missus reckons that Mutual Withdrawals always look a bit dodgy, and just live with the neutral.

Or does anyone know a way he can retract?

Cheers,
malc

Can you post a follow-up to a neutral?
That is the direction that I would go and explain that the buyer indicated that it was a mistake.

I'd ignore it, personally, although I know its nice to keep a perfect record. No one is going to care if you have a neutral among 1000+ positives..

i agree malc. my one neg was similar - some muppet didnt pay for a month (and didnt in the end either) and he negged me as i e-mailed and politely asked when he was going to pay!!! go figure.

my one neutral was becasue the guy didnt actually read the auction listing.

sign. i hate ppl sometimes. they really were moments where i wanted to go and punch their bloody faces in.

unless there is a way he/she can go to ebay and request that it was made in error and could they remove it? i dont think the mutual withdrawal is sooooo bad, but i think an additional comment down the neutral path does somehow feel a little better.

sorry about the mixup though, total bummer man :(

If you REALLY need to choose, I think a mutual withdrawal is preferrable.

Just stick with the neutral. A neutral is better than saying "there was something here, but I'm not telling you what..."

I think the neutral is better than a mutual withdrawn.  The assumption of a mutual withdrawn is that it was initially a negative on each side.

I had a similar situation and went with the mutual withdrawl.   Sorry I went that route now.    I would just leave it and ask that the buyer insert a follow up message.

I had this situation as well.  Someone made a mistake and left me a neutral thinking I was someone else.  She was very apologetic and I did the withdrawal.  Personallly, I am glad I did . . .  I would rather have 3500+ feedback and no neturals or negs and a mutual withdrawal.  That makes a grand total of 1 withdrawal on my record, so it hardly appears dodgy to me.

I agree, I just had my first withdrawal, the guy punched the wrong button and left me a neg by mistake, it's really the only way to remove it. It's not like it's a Coug situaton where you have almost 100 MDs, so I wouldn't worry about it.

It's hard to accept a neg being left "by mistake". How phuqing stupid can you be, when the very next screen practically screams "ARE YOU SURE YOU WANT TO LEAVE A NEGATIVE?!?!?!?!?!?!"

Worse, he did it for several people in a row..including some other Acaeum members. I know it was a mistake because all the feedback he left was positive...the comments, that is.  The ratings were negs.  8O Hard to fathom.

I inadvertantly left someone a neg about  a year ago, although looking at Malc's feedback it appears to be a little bit different situation.  The wrong neg I left was because I was in the process of leaving a deadbeat buyer who used two different IDs to bid on my stuff (14 items total    ) and he never paid for any of it.  The poor buyer who got neged just got caught in the crossfire.

I realized my mistake right away and sent the buyer a mutual withdrawl request.  I also left a follow up feedback indicating that the feedback I left was only my own error as well. I'd suggest the same for you Malcolm.  :)

How the hell can you "accidently" leave neutral? it warns you for neutral as well I think.

Personally, I find neutrals to be interesting to read but never offputting. Just post a followup and those who care to read it will and see "ahh, mistake"
Some follow ups are freaking hilarious anyway (like cougs.. ahahahahaha wth?)

Best of luck with that, bummer to lose the perfect score but neutrals aren't particularly devistating at least.

Your goal shouldn't be to have perfect feedback anyway....you are going to be jumping through a lot of hoops for a lot of years and some moron could STILL ding you for no reason.
If your feedback is 99%, no one really cares about the few negs or neutrals you might have...as witnessed by the sellers who manage to rack up thousands of sales a month despite numerous bad ratings (but still keeping their rating at 99% or above).  Eventually some dumb ass will come along and spoil everything, no matter how hard to try (whether it be a 1000, 5000, or 10000 feedback, it's gonna happen).

My negs are all from sellers; I buy and sell with the same account, so it was an inevitability. No worries, I'm not a professional eBayer, so I really don't care. 90% of the stuff I sell goes to Acaeum folks anyways.

It's sort of a shock and disappointment to lose that perfect rating, no doubt about that. But you'll get over it.

Leave the feedback as-is, request a withdrawal, protest to eBay ... you know what? It doesn't matter at all. Not a single thing will change for you on eBay, either as a buyer or seller.

I've become convinced over the past two years or so that any reasonable eBay feedback means pretty much the same thing to pretty much every eBay user. The incredibly tiny differences — 99.7% with a 500 score versus 99.8% with a 350 score, for example — are meaningless to all but the most ultra-anal-retentive users. Seriously, if eBay feedback really mattered, then dickheads like Cougar would never make a sale.

So, really, your only problem right now is getting over the disappointment of losing that 100% tag. Once you're past that, you'll find that nothing has changed.
