Highlighting or coloring kills the value by 30% to 95% depending on how much of it there is and how popular the item is in terms of people wanting a "playing copy". Rust on the other hand, I've noticed a 10% to 50% average drop in prices for my old TSR and JG items where the item has "some" rust. If it's really bad the drop in value is more like 30% to 70%. I hate rusty staples simply because you can never really stop the problem from getting worse. I used to live in California where rust was not a problem. However, I've moved to a humid location and I'm really worried about rust and mold. I'm keeping everything bagged and in the main part of the house where the AC is.
