Prayers for the people in Los Angeles.  These fires will burn everything to the ground if firefighters can't get some sort of control over them.  Truly devastating.

Way too political a topic for here, but complaining about fires after defunding the fire department is like complaining about crime after defunding the police… Oh, wait… They do that too, don’t they.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

Indeed, prayers for everyone affected by it.

Also, maybe it's time to log off Twitter.

God bless those who have lost everything but, alas, I fear nothing will change. And I suspect too that many will have been artificially priced out of fire insurance markets. if there are people here affected, perhaps we can set up a gofundme or something.

I agree, I think that many people will take the insurance money (if they have insurance) and run. If you are an Allstate stock holder, you are feeling pretty good today (in a really morbid way). With the average price of a Palisades home around 2M, they timed their leaving the state perfectly.  The bureaucracy of CA regulations may keep many people from ever rebuilding again with the permitting process taking years.  Those 20+ million dollar homes on the coast can never be rebuilt based on current beach conservation rules and regulations.  When money talks, BS walks and I would surmise that many of those said regulations will be repealed rather quickly with more common sense ones.

Why haven't the population taken actions to protect themselves and their homes from fire risk?
It's not like the people who live there haven't seen this coming for the past ten years.

This is one of the richest places on earth, and the population collectively don't adequately fund a fire service, don't store water for fighting fires, won't clear brushwood from their forests, or refuse to maintain their ancient electricity grid. Their excuse... Someone else's problem. How dumb is that!

My heart goes out to people earning $20K a year who don't think they have the ability to move or change their lives.
They are the victims here, not the rich and middle classes who chose their way of life.
