Hi Allan,

I just got home and am exhausted, otherwise I would post some pictures with some commentary.   The snow white set was mine, and I have to complement Frank on the job he did with it. He was outstanding and really did a nice job with the history of it.   I wish some of the other auctioneers had half of Frank's abilities.  I sold too many items for under $5.00 that should have gone for much more.  That;s about all I can say for now.

I scored an original (punched) Titan for 160. Astounded.
Also gobbled up most of the original Traveller art (c. 1980-1995, i.e. some TNE and other); noticed the Burntwires bidding, eased off so they could get some.

Andy, mega-congrats on that green guy. Uncle Duke hand-made (armature & putty) a 100 mm fig of "Morley the Wizard", our brief TSR marketing attempt c. 1982-83. Morley faded, as did Duke's hopes of a 100mm line, but that relic survives as a reminder, and a fav of Gary's best friend from childhood (Dave Dimery). Awesomely historic.

Grenadier Snow White

Every 20 years or so I see something new. ;>

This was one. I have to find Andy Czernak (of Grenadier) to yell at him; turkey never even mentioned this to me, despite working together for 5 years.

In the late '70s Grenadier tried to go global, offering a Snow White figure (and painting) set to Disney, based on the 1937 feature-length film. The figures were her and the dwarves (duh), the wicked witch (holding The Apple, very iconic), the Prince, and two mining items, ore-cart and treasure pile. Also included are 6 plastic containers of Grenadier paint, and their standard medium-point brush. Also included was an awesome painting guide for the hobbyist (not mass-market at all).

Cover sheet as usual, in the usual square box, with the usual Grenadier fonts and style and packing materials... but not a mention of Grenadier ANYwhere, not on any paper, packing, or metal. Buyer can contact me for a CoA (no charge); I'll happily attest and guarantee that this was made by Grenadier Models of Springfield PA. > *> The oddest part is that there is zero credit or markings on any metal fig. Nada. No Grenadier mark, no initials, no Disney (c), nothing.

Now this set is allegedly one of (est.) 200 that were made for the Disney license attempt, to be sold exclusively at Disney properties. They had obviously been through the back-and-forth of design, and the figures were in final stage. In a temp run like this, early runs are clean, later-in-the-day runs are a little messy in detail; these were all very clean, good sculpts (by Andy C of course).

By our reckoning, we figure that they went through months of prep and approvals, were ready to put the "(c) Disney" on all the figs and go to permanent molds and big runs. Then a Disney exec said "hey wait, is that leaded metal??" and the whole thing collapsed. Ironic it is that within 5 years we had White Metal (non-leaded) in the biz, and this whole thing could have moved ahead globally. Sigh.

The personal oddity is that I never even heard about this until the convention. So with allegedly 200 copies 'out there', I have to wonder how many have been destroyed or lost...

This is absolutely hands-down the best game item I've ever been privileged to auctioneer (balancing rarity & desirability). It is an Authorized Disney Collectible for which up to 200 (max) exist in the entire world. In the right market, at a well-advertised Disney Collectibles auction, I appraise it at well into 4 figures ($US), and it might even hit five. (That obviously depends on item availability and interested parties; a lot rests on finding just one or two more specimens.)

On the selling side - the one AD&D Fighting Wheel I was selling for my friend went for $195.

On the buying side - found a bag of 9 Runebound 2nd Ed decks in the Store for $30 (right after 3 went in auction for $10 ea oddly enough). The bag had the one I needed. Now only need the Midnight boxed set.

The only things I got at the auction were four Gen Con programs, to help fill out my holes.  Looks like I was bidding against chromaticknight.  For the first time ever for me, I received more from the auction from my sales than I spent at the auction.  

I did pick up a good bit of stuff from the exhibit hall.  Some new stuff from Lamentations of the Flame Princess (finally got to meet James Raggi in person).  Some very heavy stuff from Chaosium, including the leatherette CoC 7th Edition in the slipcover case.

But my favorite pick-up was at the Columbia Games booth.  They had found an old box somewhere, that had some old product.  I was able to get the Odivshe, Fyvria, Jmorvi, Lyahvi and Gray Mysteries tomes in brand-new-out-of-the-box condition.  And before anyone asks, they only had one of each.

All in all, likely the least expensive Gen Con for me in years.
