I'm planning a big cross-country trip and would love to hit a few high quality (for old timey D&D) stores along the way. Anyone care to share any favorites? Could be anywhere in the continental U.S.

Thanks for the replies so far - very helpful. Not sure if I'm going through Denver (might miss it to the south one way and north coming back), but NYC and Chicago are on the itinerary.

Zombie Planet - Not so much old school but a really great game store.  Bonus- Comics are sold upstairs!

Flights of Fantasy -  Gamestore + Bookstore = Awesome!  More used "old school" stuff than Zombie.  But watch out for the cats!

Ha! I grew up in Roseville, worked summers as a caddy at a golf course and spent most of my income at the Source. Thanks for bringing them up, great memories! (this was 25 years ago now)

It's been there seemingly forever, and so have some of the employees. They've got good stories of the old days and some really old inventory tucked into the store's nooks and crannies. The place just oozes the 1970s as the old matted floorboards creak as you walk on them. They've stacks of inventory to the high ceiling.

I happened to be in the store this weekend and they told me that they no longer carry any old or used stock.  They have everything new:  5E, Pathfinder, etc.  and tons of board games.

I haven't been in there for a number of years. That's a shame they got rid of the old stock as it gave the place such a cool character. The old stuff used to be tucked in under the standard shelving as a disorganized mess. It was wonderful to go through while searching for hidden treasures. I don't think any other 'pure' game stores exist in NYC as the rents are just exorbitantly expensive compared to a typical game store's revenue.

Definitely have to give a shout out to my fave here on the West Coast... A1 Cards and Comics (Welcome to A-1 Comics - A-1 Comics | Stores In Roseville And Sacramento) in the Sacramento area. It's like a honey-hole for me every time I go in there. Most of the clientele and staff are under 30, so they don't know the value of some of the older AD&D items on the shelves. I can usually come out of there with a pretty rare find for a song.
