The technologically challenged stratochamp asked me to post photos of the town he made for his kids from the Dwarven Forge town set.  This is the pool table in his basement.

If I were his son, I'd ask to play Smaug.

This is impressive indeed!  I tried to do the same for my kids and they loved it although not nearly to the same scale stratochamp built.  Get their imaginations going!  Soon it will be like ours as they envision their own worlds and dioramas with Dwarven Forge and they will be running US through their settings!

I ordered the pre-painted versions. With their first KS I ordered 10 Dungeon sets unpainted (and a certain DM of mine got 5 painted). We (theoretically) did that so we could put together 15 sets but tell our pieces apart easily. Well the painted sets look so much nicer, so I learned my lesson. With KS2 I went with pre-painted, and of course KS3 as well.

The town area there is about 40"x80". I was trying to fill up the whole area inside of the castle walls with the Dwarven Forge pieces. What you see there are two Empire Sets, 1 Imperial City Streets, 1 Bridge set, 1 Tavern set (that's where the tables on top of three of the buildings come from) and 1 Balcony Set. I could make about 15 more buildings but I need to order more roofs. So in retrospect I wish I had ordered more of those up front or maybe another Empire Set because one receives a generous discount when buying through the KS.

I really bought these for my children (no really!). I thought the 3-dimensional nature of the product combined with the high level of customization would be an excellent gateway for them in to gaming. And of course the stuff is indestructible. Of course, I probably shouldn't issue that challenge too loudly; these are children of mine after all.

I'd love to, Bill, but we have at least 4 hours of work to set up the booth, and won't be arriving in Lake Geneva until between 6 and 7pm-ish.  Can you bring some more pictures on an iPad or something?

oh about 15 to 20 hours, but that involved a LOT of little tinkering. from box to completion it probably could have been done in 8 hours (and that includes taking all of the Mage knight items out of there boxes too. there are 18 wall packs of mage knight there (as well as the towers, keeps etc.).
