I have the 1996 Forgotten Realms Campaign Setting boxed set - 1085. So it is the 5th edition. I was reading the site info on these Campaign Settings, and in the information for the 3rd edition, it stated that it included "2 hex-grid transparencies (identical to First/Second print except for stock numbers)". Looking through my box I don't see any hex-grid overlays, but I did have tucked away a couple that I thought went to the 1st edition - 1031. The stock number on them is XXXXXXX0701. Which edition do these hex overlays belong to? I hope that either they go to this boxed set, or that this boxed set did not have the overlays. Any help would be much appreciated.

Joan, that looks identical to the overlays from my first
FR
set. I haven't checked to confirm it was a 1st, but I bought it New upon release, so I assume it was....
I'll look for you tomorrow, if no one beats me to it in the meanwhile

I checked my old gray boxes, and they all have 1031XXX0701 as the numbers on the hex grid. So does my Kara-Tur box.
My 4th and 5th printing of the campaign setting all have XXXXXXX0701, and so do my two copies of The Horde boxed set.
However, I bought all of these used, so cannot confirm that they weren't mixed up at some point.

I got my set used as well but it did have that in it.
I have a feeling it was included with the revised sets too, but there's no mention of them on the back of the revised
FR
box.
Having said that, it didn't look like they were officially mentioned as included in the first edition box set either even though they were.

So i guess the stock number change refers to going from 1031XXX0701 to XXXXXXX0701. Perfect! You guys are the best!
