Where to find Forgotten Realms, Birthright, Spelljammer?

I know BR and SJ are not well liked and considered by many to be worthless, but let me explain. I'm collecting items that interest me and am also trying to replace sets that I sold during the Great RGP Sell-Off of '98

Forgotten Realms - Not as 'worthless' as the other two, but I've had no luck finding a 2E box set (gold box or revised) in good condition. This is one of the few sets I'm willing to spend a little more on.

Birthright - I don't care what anyone else says, I like the setting. I have the main set and all the Players Secrets/Realm Books. I'm having trouble finding the thin expansion box sets and supplemental rulebooks. I keep hearing that BR wasn't popular, over-produced, and has no value. Then why can't I find any sets in decent condition for a fair price on eBay?

Spelljammer - Just looking for sets in good condition. Ebay seems to be overloaded with SJ box sets in poor condition (crushed boxes, incomplete) for premium prices.

Am I missing something? Are there other places to get these sets for a reasonble price?

Hi Brian,

I'd say to keep looking on ebay. I'm sure that they'll pop up at lower prices sooner or later on most of what you're looking for, asides from a few of the BR ones that were released on a real limited basis (one of the Player's Secrets ones...I'm forgetting the name of it right now). I'm not sure how you've been doing searches on ebay, but I would suggest broadening your search because it's entirely possible that someone could post a "D&D lot" or "D&D books" or "Dungeons and Dragons lot" (different descriptions), but not necessarily specify Spelljammer or Birthright yet actually have the SJ or BR or FR stuff included. I did pick up an FR original box set a year or two ago and it wasn't that much money, so I know you'll be able to get it.

As for whether people liked/disliked these campaigns, I really liked BR. Maybe not every book that was released, but I thought the game was pretty interesting. Btw, there was supposed to be a revised set/books that was to come out in 1998 or so, but those unfortunately got scrapped. (also several novels). I think that BR was a very good game, but probably suffered because of what was going on in the game industry then.
I like a lot of the FR stuff but not everything that was released.
As for SJ, at first I really wasn't too interested, but over the years I've warmed up to some of it.

From the Birthright line, the boxed sets can do fairly well so are usually listed to reflect that - off hand $45-$75 for items in complete and excellent condition. Most people get the impression that BR is cheap because of all the Player's Secret books which can be had for $8-$10 still new in shrink.

FR must have been more mass produced and you should be able to get a good one for a reasonable price.

Spelljammer is similar - boxed sets in the $20-$25 range, modules $8-$15.

A few of the BR boxed sets are expensive - the biggest issue I see is the completeness of the campaign boxed set, and those darn war cards and "war chest". I've had my hands on that set half a dozen times, always an incomplete version. I already have 2 incomplete copies as it is!

One other place to keep checking on individual items is
www.bookfinder.com

something might pop up on some seller at a bookstore or amazon that's a more reasonable price.

I generally think that looking through auction listings that are "lots" as opposed to individual book or box set listings could be the way for you to get what you're after. It definitely requires a lot more time.

Good idea looking for "D&D lots". I have searches that I run for specific items, but the lot listings may be the way to go. I've collected items that I've found over the years, but I haven't put a lot of effort into it. Now that I've decided to get serious, I need to make better use of the online tools available.

I've actually ended up with a bunch of extra items that I was planning on parting with at some point (just other things have gotten in my way), but I'd be happy to sell them sooner rather than later.

I've got one each of the FR 2E Campaign Setting editions: Gold (VF-FR) and Revised (FR I think) and both should be complete.

I've got Spelljammer - Adventures in Space (complete, FR), as well as a ton of the other boxes/modules in like condition

And for Birthright I've only got a couple duplicates of some of the Player's Secrets - some are SW, rest should be VF+
