This box set came with an unusual Games Workshop character sheet that I had not seen before. A homemade one perhaps?

Not homemade but should hopefully have some trace of pad remnants. If not, that's four "prints" before the currently listed one on the Acaeum? ;)

That's the later version of the GW character sheet which originally went back to O&W #13 (2/76) first photocopied then litho printed, updated somewhat with the Gothic GW font they had been using in their logo since the back of O&W #19 (10/76) but those will likely be a bit later as the original version was litho printed at/around that time. The explicit mention of the "pad of 20" first appears right at the end of the run #25 (4/77), but unhelpfully "per 20 sheets" is mentioned right back to #19 (if only to stop them receiving orders for silly numbers? *g*). The cliparted beholder runs alongside their D&D Society utilizing that on a regular basis from right at the end of 1976, too.

The D&D Info Sheet, first listed in 1/77 (O&W #20) is in that box as well, of course.

I should've guessed half the board had that one marked, Steven!

(Yeah, who needs the box? ;) A pity the original receipt wasn't retained though.)

Wow, that's a different version of the info sheet than I've seen before. The cover shows the UK Holmes Basic Set, which I believe was released in Dec 1977. The earliest pic I've found for the UK Basic rulebook is from White Dwarf #5, showing a photo from Games Day III (17 Dec 1977). See here.

To compare, here is the only version I've seen previously (images from here on Tome of Treasures). The front of this one has the title "Visit a World of Swords & Sorcery with Dungeons & Dragons" and shows the LBB covers (thus, presumably the earlier version of this sheet). The back appears the same as what can be seen from the auction photo, including the sample dungeon.
