This was a pair of... I'm not sure what they are, but they were painted by David Sutherland III.

Can anyone please help me identify them? My apologies for the dust on them. They've been sitting on a shelf for 16 years.

Wow, really? You guys are going to be able to tell me what it is, if anyone can.

With the hoofs, they look like Ki-rin, only upright without the unicorn horn. Weird. Wonder what set they were from? Tekumel? I don't think Tekumel had anything this... um.. normal in their line.

Thank you! Wow, what an odd one. The sculptor seems to be still doing his sculpting, though not with miniatures anymore.

Tom Loback has a bunch of wooden driftwood sculpts along the banks of the Hudson river.

Do you have any info when the Dragontooth Saurians were first available for sale? The earliest ad I've found was Dragon magazine in Sept '77.

The SMC1 Champion Mounted on a Lizard is similar to the Lizard Rider illustration by David Sutherland in the first D&D Basic book (published July 1977). Sutherland modified one of his SMC1 Champions to look closer to this illustration. See this thread: Re: Appraising miniatures painted by DCSIII
I'm just curious if Sutherland modified the Dragontooth mini and then used it as a model for the illustration, or if he modified the mini later to look like his drawing.

cheers. Not sure on the exact date...the earliest DT Advertisement I can find is July '77 but it is just a pic of one of the Rhino Riders in a Dragon review. I'd not linked the minis with that pic before. Those are nice PJs on those and the demons.
