So, I don't know if any other collectors set goals for the new year, but I figured I would share mine from last year with some pics. I decided to start collecting shrinkwrapped miniature box sets from Grenadier and Ral Partha. Call it nostalgia, from my youth. Many hours were spent with my solid gold box set minis at the table, such find memories. :roll:

Anyway, I set out last year to try and collect as many as I could find. I concentrated mainly on Grenadier boxes, because they are the ones I used the most with my gaming group.

I think I put together a solid start. I still have a ton of holes, but not bad for one year. If Blackmoor hadn't outbid me at the WOTC Gencon charity auction, I would have had a lot more!! :evil:

Let me know what you think? Also, does anybody have any goals for 2013??

Loving the pictures, excellent stuff.
My collecting goal for this year remains the same as last year - properly organise and record what I have got and pick up a few more early modules that have eluded me for the right price! Also still on the list (for,I believe, the eighth year!) Is H1, which I refuse to pay more than fifteen quid for :roll:

My collecting goal is a comprehensive list of everything in my collection! I am about 30 percent there

I hope to get some better display options for what I do have. Get some of the various art pieces (I don't collect it, but I do like certain pieces) framed and adorning a wall or three. Hope to find a print of the original Shadowrun cover. Finish my HQ and WHQ collection (miniatures mostly.) D&D-like... I'm not saying. Last time I did, you guys outbid me on everything I wanted.

My main goals for 2013 are getting everything out of storage and finding/building the right bookcases to put it all in.

If/when I can manage that, I'm thinking I want to start a blog (or vlog) for RPG reviews. That isn't a novel idea, but the material that tends to get reviewed is more recent, the collection tours on youtube are heavily skewed toward d20 and WoD, and I haven't found anyone talking about versions/printings/variations, valuation, finding old games, etc. - collector stuff. So with all these shelves (well, right now, crates) of great old stuff, it might be nice to read and discuss some of it, especially older and more obscure items. The new GrognardGames series on youtube is the closest I've seen, but it's not (yet) quite what I'm thinking.

Part of that process may lead to some downsizing in certain areas as well. One example: my complete Cyberpunk collection... am I ever going to read it or use it? Probably not, so why do I keep it? Even if it isn't worth a lot, the shelf space is.

Items to buy? There are a lot of series I would like to fill in, especially inexpensive common/uncommon books that I just haven't bought yet, or newer books I've had to pass on for now. If any of the obscure stuff on my want list shows up, and I don't have to fight all of you for it, that would be okay too. It happens once in a while. :wink:

Areas of interest/knowledge: Harn, WFRP, Ars Magica, anything BRP based such as CoC, Runequest, Pendragon and all their related games

My actual collecting has come in waves, most recently 2007-09, ending in obtaining a large lot I still haven't managed to read through completely. I've already obtained most of what I wanted, so now it's just the odd rare item that I buy.

I love the IKEA bookshelf units, but they don't have one that I like for the "board game sized boxes" (like the 14th print D&D boxed set...). So I'm thinking of building my own... we'll see just how motivated I get in these next few months...

Awesome collection, Milty. There's probably a gold-plated figure in one of those Gold Line boxes, don't you think?

I'm slowly working on my boxed set collection as well, so I hope to add a few more this year.

2 goals this year - finish my run of Dungeon magazines (4 issues left!) and finish the R series in NM+ condition. (Only) missing R1, R3, and R4. Last year I closed out RPGA1-4 in shrink/NM.

Yes, Dungeon magazine compared to those 2 is rather ridiculous, but really its a PITA getting all 150 issues in NM condition =/

My 2013 goals are:

- to get at least one very rare item,
- start on the Gazetteers (I have only 3 so far),
- finish Ravenloft (2 books), Forgotten Realms (3 boxed sets), and Dark Sun (1 book, 1 boxed set),
- plus anything I can find to upgrade the 15 or so incomplete/bad shape items I have.

By the way, is there a Acaeum web or forum page that has the ultimate collectors list for OD&D, 1-2 AD&D (hard covers, mods, boxed sets only - no minis, endless quests, etc.)? Just the RPG stuff? I've built a large list but I'm not sure if it's complete...

This mostly sounds like me too.. been thinking about this esp after the rpgnet thread on obscure games (that comes up again and again)..

Goals: General
Get down my piles around the world
List some of my rarer spares on rpgmarketplace
maybe get rid of (thin out) magic ccg/novels/ computer games
Blog (art/obscre games)

Goals: Collection
Do a list of hard stuff to get (I did pretty good last year I think)
Look at tracking down a couple of the rarer games (already found 1 this year... with extras)
try and do some more tracking down on rpga stuff (ie living city.. and the last mod for Living Force I'm missing)
another piece of art or 2..
Fill in some more holes in my mag collection (didn't do much to it last year, but still amanaged to do a couple of harder ones)
Become more active in Aussie cons

Outdoor Geos, the Understanding D&D flyer, & St. Regis notebooks. These are the last things on my list from years ago that I still really want & still haven't found for affordable prices.

Here is a pretty good checklist that has been floating around the Internet for quite a while.
I don't know how complete it actually is, but it is rather expansive in what it covers.

Thanks Serian. I've seen this list before but found that it was missing a few items, for example where's XSOLO? Many items are listed twice or more (in different categories). I do like the versions/printings of items, that's helpful. I can also appreciate the work that went in to this list, it's obvious the author really did a lot of work building it.
