Sheesh!  What a thread.  D&D players are definitely not of the same mind on this endeavor.  There were a couple of interesting side treks I definitely found interesting.  First, this interview with Luke Gygax:

http://loremaster.org/content.php?282-L ... Luke-Gygax

Second, the feedback given by Time Kask here (and summarized by me below):

http://www.dragonsfoot.org/forums/vi...39f56#p1301751

kaskoid wrote:Because this community has been very kind to me, I will share with you in what detail I can before the release. So, here are some snippets of the advertising packet or quotes from replies I wrote yesterday:

* Gygax Magazine will be released next month, December 2012.
* The magazine will be available in both print and digital formats.
* The name Gygax Magazine refers to Ernie and Luke.
* We registered the TSR trademark in 2011, but we are a new company, and not associated with the original TSR or Wizards of the Coast.
* Gygax Magazine will cover a wide variety of RPGs and strategy games, focusing on the games of today while preserving the traditions and history of the industry.
* We'd prefer to talk more about the contents of the first issue when it's available, but we hope people will love it.

We are in no way legally connected to any company in existence before 2011. Gary's widow owns all of his IP and has already shown by her overt hostility that it is not worth going there.

First, I am pleased someone is producing a quarterly magazine like this, especially after Kobold Quarterly Magazine stopped/suspended its publication.  Second, as I read over all the feedback, I was reminded of Eleanor Roosevelt's quote, "Great minds discuss ideas; average minds discuss events; small minds discuss people."  I think this magazine is a great idea which hopefully won't get dragged down by fighting over events or other people.   8)

This is awesome stuff in my opinion. Even if it fizzles it is good for the hobby just by its creation.

Not that I am irrationally exuberant or anything ;)

Leave for vacation and something cool happens. That is the way of things.

I signed up.

Too bad it's only quarterly, but kudos to them for publishing a magazine at all in today's publishing climate.

Last I read, the first magazine was going to be available this month and they already had over 1,000 direct subscribers.

But there are people on this forum FAR more in the loop than I am...  :D

Received the following e-mail today:

It's been quite a wait, but it's finally time! The first issue of Gygax magazine will be unboxed at 2pm EST on Saturday, January 26th at The Brooklyn Strategist. We'll be streaming the unboxing live at GygaxMagazine.com for everyone who can't be in New York City that day.
As soon as the first box is opened, you'll be able to order single copies or subscriptions online. (And of course, we'll have them in the store as well.)

The staff of Gygax magazine, including Ernie Gygax, Luke Gygax, Tim Kask, Jayson Elliot, Jim Wampler, and James Carpio, will be online for a video Q&A. We'll have some other special guests that day as well.

After the unboxing, we'll keep the video running while we run gaming events all afternoon. There will be a limited number of online seats available to join the in-store games via the virtual tabletop Roll20. A followup email will be sent next week with a link to a form where you can sign up to play online.

Keep following us on Twitter and Facebook for more details as we get closer to the unboxing day! We'll be sending a followup email next week with details for anyone who wants to attend the event in person.

Interesting.  Anybody here going?  or going to try to be an on-line player?   :?:

I asked whether a pre-order of (at least) the first issue is possible for all the non-US followers... they replied me it is not possible!

Then i'd kindly ask anybody here who will be there to arrange a purchase on my behalf... Just drop me a PM in case you are going to attend the event and are willing to help me!

Thanks a lot and ciaooo

Yes, I'd like to be able to get this too, but being outside the US is rather restrictive at times.

I'd be happy with PDFs of the magazine to read.

Are the in-store issues going to be any different from the ones available for purchase on-line?  Maybe I missed something, I inferred that we can just order our copies on-line (or subscribe) after the launch.

I draw the line at collecting... D&D beach towels.

Shoulda been: ".. from Pangreenia to Floratopolis, from mystical Treeonia of spectral Forests to Schruborial dimensions." - The Forests of Leng

From gygaxmagazine.com:

Online ordering and subscriptions will be available on the day of the unboxing event.

If you're on our mailing list, you will be guaranteed a copy if you order within three days of the unboxing.

That seems pretty straightforward to me, assuming it's correct.
