What is "fine" condition? Is this equivalent to "fair"? :?

I avoid "fine" whenever possible, and use "excellent" just for this reason. But for clarification, it is above very good and equivalent to excellent.

No equivalance between them. "Fine" is as close to new as "Fair" is to trash.
One of the regular posters here has an excellent scale of collector grading on their website. I'm sure they'll jump in with more specifics.

Thanks dark. That one's been bothering me for a while. I'm going to make up my own grading system (warning, sarcasm-o-meter has gone critical! 8O ) :
Uber L33t!!! -- Perfect, as printed.*
Wicked Awesome -- minor scuffs and dog-ears.
Near Mint -- a well played copy. May have someone's name written inside. Call them and offer to change their long-distance plan.
Good-For-Its-Age -- large tears, spine cracked, cover scuffed. Sentimental value added at very little additional cost.
Gnarly -- Dog-chewed, Coke stains, cover missing. Only minor cigarette burns.
Toxic -- This copy is on fire at the moment, or has been exposed to radioactive waste. A "playing" copy.
*This condition does not actually exist, but is provided for theoretical purposes.

I always use "very nice" when I do not feel like grading the item. :)
