Gents, can anyone offer some advice on this please?

Sold an item to a guy in Oz, then after 6ish weeks he makes a claim. It seems the item hasn't arrived. Stupidly, I didn't go for 'signed for'

So, ebay have just refunded him and now want me to reimburse them. Should that not go via paypal? Or is this my cash gone??

Dammit, I should learn from this..

Dammit, I should learn from this..

My experience was that paypal handled it and simply took it from my account. That was paypal USA. You may have a different set-up where paypal isn't allowed to just deduct funds from your account.

On some items I use Delivery Confirmation(or similar) and some items I don't. If it's an expensive item, I definitely use either Delivery Confirmation, Registered Mail or insurance depending on the circumstances. However, lots of cheaper items I don't use these methods and basically self-insure. By the time I have sold ten items without Delivery Confirmation, I've recouped enough money to "lose" a shipment if a claim is made. Fortunately for me, I'm now so far ahead, I just reimburse without a fuss. But that's just me.

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

He may have really not received the item. Delivery Confirmation is worth the expense, IMO.

He should have armed himself then...

That is true since international mail is extremely precarious in my experience. He might even still get the package down the road.

Does paypal accept signatures as proof of shipping? They should but they seem to be geared toward delivery confirmation. Can you even get delivery confirmation on international orders (at least from the USA) or does it just show the handover to the foreign mail service?

A big question is how did you ship the item? If it was shipped by surface then it would probably have no chance to arrive in 6 weeks.

Yep.. the guy initially complained when I sent the first item, stating he knew how much it should be to post. Then wanted it sent cheapest (hence surface) so I am now on the trusting side that if it arrives, he then makes a payment back to me.

Annoyed about it all, but as I say, lesson learned. At least the goods to Italy, US and Germany all made it safely.

Ah, well he does sound like an arse then. I would have blocked him also. If he does receive the package later, admits it and pays you, then you can unblock him.

tbh, I probably won't unblock him even if he does receive it and pay me. The guy has been a dick from the start, wish I'd cancelled him after it finished and sold it to someone else!

Normally when I run into someone like this, I will tell them that I can ship it by a cheaper method but they would have to send a money order, etc because of the Paypal requirements. It puts the options out there but makes them decide how to proceed.

I'd say, always ship airmail and always ship recorded. If the buyer coesn't want it that way, they can go buy something from someone else. You seen to look after your own safety first because PayPal and eBay are both quite clear on who is responsible for proving the item arrived with the buyer. At least it was only £18.50 and you learned from it. It's something most sellers have to learn the same way. But it'd be worth posting or PMing the guys eBay ID so we can all decide whether or not to add the name to our blocked bidder lists.

This week I've been mostly eating . . . The white ones with the little red flecks in them.

yes please..

6 weeks is generally not long enough to make it by surface from the Uk to Australia.. speaking from experience.. having said that Uk (for me) has one of the worst track records of delivery and the lost packages... the last package I got malcolm to send me (recorded) arrived in very poor shape.. it looked like it had been squashed flat...
