Don't even get me started on university student associations.  I have been around Canadian universities for too long now and can't understand why the university gives any power to these organizations.

Did you know that most universities in Canada force students into buying a bus pass?  Usually for the fee of $100+ more in the student fees including a handling fee charged by the student union for collecting the money.  To get the discounted price, each student is charged for the bus pass whether they want it or not.

Another good example is the student pub back in my home town of Thunder Bay.  Here's the scenario: student bar, very nice, on campus, packed on 2 or 3 nights a week (also the 2nd largest on campus pub in Ontario).  The campus is also slightly isolated so the on campus pub is very convenient.  Would you believe that they pub was losing money, and lots of it?  It turned out that the biggest problem was that members of the student union, would get into all events for free though the back door and would bring their friends with them.  Also, they felt it was fine to walk off with free cases of beer and liquor.  At one point the bank put a hold on the student union bank account so other university clubs didn't get their money because the student union owed too much for what the pub was losing - ridiculous.

Yep.  Metropolitan Thunder Bay is a whopping 120,000 and decreasing.  Some of the features include the nearest larger city is Winnipeg, about a 7 hour drive away then Minneapolis, 10 hour drive away.  It is nice to drive 15 minutes out of town to be in basically complete wilderness.

The Sleeping Giant was named as one of Canada's Natural Wonders or something like that too:

Just wanted to wish myself a happy birthday, since I won't be celebrating it -- wife has to work all day, so I won't even get to see her much less have a moment to eat some cake and open a present...

Also, just felt like saying thanks to all the people here who have helped me out at times, like stratochamp (wonder if you've had any time to look over that massive list, hehe), Beyondthebreach, Mars, and Badmike amongst others especially people who have bought the stuff I've had for sale. So, thanks for a good year and a clang of glass for many more.
