Yes Thom, but where do you stand on Imax Food movies vs. 3D food movies?

I was a vegetarian for 4 years, but that might have had something to do with the fact that the college meat choices were just nasty.

I'm a vegetarian if I eat at Taco Bell. Regarding 3D food movies, the gold standard on that was set by Count Floyd on SCTV: Dr Tongue's 3D House of Pancakes Clip - YouTube

I don't know if the cast of SCTV were vegetarians or not. What do Canadians eat?

Easy!  Peameal bacon!   :?

Do you find either an I-Max or 3D experience... does it make it more enjoyable for you?

I personally don't see a huge benefit to 3D if I need a pair of glasses to wear to appreciate the experience (I don't think that the technology is there yet).

Interestingly, one of the main benefits of an I-MAX movie is the clientele.  You rarely get kids in I-MAX movies.  You are more likely to get people who really get into movies and want to maximize the experience.  They know how to turn off their cell phone.  Other than that, there are times and scenes where the I-MAX experience is mind-blowing and sensory immersive.

The biggest negatives for these I-MAX/3-D movies is that sometimes the 3-D glasses are annoying...distracting.  Also, I don't think the 3-D technology handles action scenes well.  Things can get blurry.  And then there's the cost.  I agree the technology isn't completely there yet.

I used to be more of a proponent for I-MAX, but now that my local theater is offering reduced price tickets on Tuesdays, and the crowds are still really low, I'm going that route for now.   8)

At my college cafeteria, boxes of meat were spied in the back that were labeled "Grade D" and in pencil was added "(but edible)"!

In my college days, the weekend food was the worst.  They'd take whatever was left over from the weekly menu, mix some of it together, add gravy/sauce/cream, and give it a fancy name.  We just called it mystery meat with universal sauce.   :puker:

MadCatUSA wrote in Random Thoughts or OT Chit-Chat Thread: Wow Throwi... I apologize if my words caused such offense, it was not meant as an attack on any individual. I was pointing out that IMHO there are Vegetarians and Vegans who approach the subject with a religious-like fervor that puts me off. They make claims that eating vegetation only is somehow superior to an omnivores diet, which is plainly untrue. I certainly never intended for anyone in particular to feel slighted, I simply was stating my opinion (albeit in a manner that on second reading is probably more abrasive than I would have been in person.) If it is your choice to eat vegetarian due to concern over what has been done to the meat industry in this country, more power to you! I applaud your choice in the face of all the advertising and abuse that is heaped on those who choose to "buck the trend" as it were. I agree that most of the meat products in this country have been adulterated to the point where it is unsafe to eat in any quantity. However, with that being said, I would maintain that if you have a source of good, quality meat, and you know how it is raised an prepared, there is nothing to fear from it. I, personally, avoid processed foods as much as I can. My wife and I made a conscious choice to eat food that is healthier (less processed) and lose weight. I'm happy to report that in 9 months, I've lost 61 pounds. We eat very little red meat, we stick as much as is possible to chicken and fish that has been raised responsibly/caught humanely and not to eat "fast food". We've fallen in LOVE with Mediterranean foods like shawarma and gyros (chicken gyros are SO tasty!)

So, in conclusion, (i.e. TL;DR) my apologies to you, and by extension to all vegetarians. I was feeling somewhat feisty that day.

Thanks for your response.  I appreciate you taking the time to clarify your point and clear up misunderstandings.  While there are some vegetarians who are overly zealous and even irritatingly forceful about their opinions, I'd argue that that is a personality trait more than a vegetarian trait.  These are the same traits shared by religious zealots and political party hardliners, among others.  If you met me, you'd never even know I've been a vegetarian for almost 20 years.  My choice, my business.  Especially around friends and folks where food is not the centered topic.  ;-)  And furthermore, I've been accosted for my food choices by die hard carnivores more than I've ever pushed my own beliefs.

First and foremost, we're here to share our love and passion for RPG collecting.  As long as we don't ostracize people for their beliefs and personal choices, we're all good.  :-)

Precisely my point my friend.

I made a little pact a few years ago to try to read most or all of the Appendix N recommendations (well before I really even considered collecting D&D).
I was strolling through the local Library and I'm not saying it called out to me or anything but my eye just so happened to catch a pair of Jack Vance books so I picked up the Treasury volume - I'm sure I'm not telling most of you anything you don't already know when I say WOW, it's been a great read so far. One thing that has really stuck out to me though is after you read a story, they have an afterword by Vance pertaining to what you've just read.
The Afterword to Sail 25
"Several years ago, Cele Goldsmith edited Amazing Stories. One evening at the home of Poul Anderson she produced a set of cover illustrations which she had bought by the dozen for reasons of economy, and asked those present to formulate stories based upon them. Poul rather gingerly accepted a cover whose subject I forget. Frank Herbert was assigned the representation of a human head, with a cutaway revealing an inferno of hellfire, scurrying half-human creatures, and the paraphernalia of a nuclear power plant. I was rather more fortunate and received a picture purporting to display a fleet of spaceships driven by sun-sails. Theoretically the idea is sound, and space scientists have long included this concept among their speculations for future planetary voyages. Astrogation, of course, becomes immediately immensely complex, but by carefully canting the sail and using planetary and/or solar gravities, any region of the solar system may be visited - not always by the most direct route, but neither did the clipper ships sail great-circle routes.
The disadvantages are the complication of the gear and the tremendous expanse of sail - to be measured in square miles - necessary to accelerate any mass of ship to any appreciable velocity within a reasonable time-span.
Which brings me back to my cover picture. The artist, no doubt for purposes of artistry, had depicted the ships with sails about the size of spinnakers for a twelve-meter, which at Earth radius from the Sun would possibly produce as much as one fly-power of thrust. Additionally the were painted in gaudy colors, in defiance of the conventional wisdom which specifies that sun-sails shall be flimsy membranes of plastic, coated with a film of reflective metal a few molecules thick. Still, no matter how illogical the illustration, I felt that I must justify each detail by one means or another. After considerable toil I succeeded, with enormous gratitude that I had not been selected to write about the cutaway head which had been the lot of Frank Herbert.                                          - Jack Vance 1976 "

I tried to find what became of this. Wikipedia lists three Herbert stories in Amazing during the Goldsmith era, none of which have covers matching the description of a cutaway head with flames & running figures & nuclear equipment:

"Try to Remember," Amazing, October 1961.
"Mindfield," Amazing, March 1962.
"Greenslaves," Amazing, March 1965.

When I read that, I thought I remembered something similar to it. I've seen a bunch of Pulps at local auctions and have seen plenty of covers online, maybe even on Grognardia. I didn't take the time to try to find it though. I guess it's possible also, that it was passed up on or never written - seems like a killer seed to get a story out of though.

I was reading this and thinking - to be a fly on the wall in that room with those three there.
