Hi, some more info here https://www.facebook.com/Rassilon/posts ... 1869084243 and there is this Fundraiser for Michele Yoder by Becca Rael Atlee : Christopher Yoder's memorial fund

He was a long time poster on DF as well and a very good natured gamer. He had attended GaryCon with one of his sons a year or two ago. Apparently he commited suicide on 6/27/17

Sorry to hear that about Clangador. He seemed like a genuinely good dude.  May he rest in peace.

I love finding stuff like this: it's from 1936, and the recipes are amazing. My colon screamed in terror when I was reading it. When you have a recipe for "Scrapple" that starts with "Cut one hog's head into halves", you really have a tough time wrapping your mind around the thought process that was put into some of these.
This copy is weird, too: I have not been able to find another copy with the same cover. All the 1936 printings I have seen are different. Oh Lord, maybe it's a.............. PRE-PRODUCTION!

LOL. I think my Dad's Mom might have some recipes in there!

Dad grew up on a chicken farm in rural Arkansas. I well remember going to visit Gram and Pa and eating Scrapple for breakfast.

Gram would make it in a cast iron skillet. Let it cool and the next morning fry it up and serve with maple syrup. Yummy yum yum.

They wasted not one part of chickens, hogs, cows, whatever on the farm. They ate it all. But you know what? As a kid I didn't care it was good! Except for Chitlins or Chitterlings. Bleeeeech.

If a hundred years' worth of posts here went by, I would never have expected someone actually ATE Scrapple. The description makes haggis sound like caviar. Is a Chitterling when you pack a live mouse into a dough roll?
One of the best things about being a kid is not understanding or caring about what you eat as long as it tastes good. I remember working at McDonald's and making Pounders: four 1/4 pound patties and 8 slices of cheese. Along with several hundred fries, of course. No one cared that the meat patties were 30% lean meat or that the fries had enough trans fats to turn your arteries into PVC pipes. And the Chicken McNuggets. Good freaking God, those things were made from the stuff they scraped off the floor after the mechanically separated chicken parts were processed. The things had more fat than Oprah's ass. But DAYUM were they good.
Seriously, though, I applaud people not wasting food. A creature has to give up its most valued possession to fill the stewpot. Vegetarians always cracked me up; most of the ones I have spoken with abhor killing, yet think nothing of slapping down carrots, potatoes, radishes etc. without a second thought as to the plant being killed in the process. Prohibition on eating sentient beings isn't a valid defense, either. Plants have been shown to react to outside stimuli, and produce dopamine, serotonin and other chemicals found in the brain. I seem to recall an experiment where someone played the sound of a caterpillar eating a leaf near a plant, and the plant produced chemicals to repel caterpillars. Several others have been done as well. If you think about it, plants are amazingly adapted to survive. They can lose like 90% of their composition and still survive.

Vegetarians (and Vegans) make me laugh... We as humans EVOLVED to eat meat as well as plants. One only has to look at the structure of the human jaw and teeth to see that. Turning your back on evolution like that just means you get weeded out of the gene pool. I don't care what people think, if you turn your back on evolution, it will turn it's back on you one way or another. You can't force it. Just eat the damn bacon like everyone else!

*Although* :-) ...one might argue that continued evolution is leading to vegetarianism ;-).  Limited resources will eventually take their toll on the livestock industry, and longer lives / longer exposure to certain meats lead to a higher probability for certain ailments.  Valid and logical arguments.

...that said - my motto is, "Give me steak or give me death!".  If I could survive on meat alone, then I would :-).

End Result:  Different strokes for different folks ;-).

Several years back, I had one too many people tell me, "I'm vegetarian" in that condescending, I am smarter/better than you, kind of tone, and I decided to have a better comeback.  I now tell people that, "Well, I am a hydroterian," which interestingly, most people seem to immediately understand what it means, even though I made the word up.  A hydroterian is someone who drinks only water.  No coffee, no sodas, no juices, no green tea, no Gatorade, etc...  Now, since I work with college students, this actually has the profound effect I was hoping for.  It turns out that the vast majority of young people find some of their identity in their drink(s) of choice, even more than their diet of choice.  And most college students understand their drinking patterns, not even including alcoholic beverages, are usually unhealthy, and they most can't survive without caffeine given they way they sleep (or don't sleep) which means they can't match my "dietary" discipline.  If they are stupid enough to start explaining all the problems of meat, I have more than enough reasons why caffeine or sugary drinks or diet drinks are even more horrible.   That being said, I really have nothing against vegetarians unless they are snooty about it.  I personally try to eat meat only once a day just because it's slightly healthier and cheaper, but I am not religious about it.

The bottom line is that it's not worth a snooty attitude or fussing and arguing about.  I eat to live and that's just me. 8)

I went to see the movie Spiderman: Homecoming this afternoon, and I liked it.  It's probably the best of the Spiderman movies, but not by much.  Tom Holland actually looks like a teenager, for one thing.  Marisa Tomei was definitely an upgrade over the comic book version of Aunt May, but I prefer pretty faces.  The special effects are better, but definitely aren't perfect.  The action can move so fast, it's hard to tell exactly what's going on sometimes in the fight scenes.  The movie is not too long or too short.  The actors are good enough and the movie makes sense for the most part although there are some holes.  The villain story is interesting and layered, but not the best.  I guess the most disappointing part of the movie was the lack of and quality of humor.  There were funny parts and scenes, but it was sporadic.  Spiderman's high school friend was funny sometimes but also annoying.  The main thing it got right was that it had a good story to tell, there was a good twist in the middle, and it fits in with the Marvel Universe.

The movie was offered in I-MAX at my theater, but since it started offering reduced price offerings on Tuesdays, I decided to go the cheap route and not see it in I-MAX.  I don't know if I missed much, but there were some scenes where the I-MAX experience could have been great.   There are two bonus scenes after the credits.  If you usually like superhero movies, and the Marvel line in particular, I'd recommend it.  If you are not a fan of superhero movies, there's interesting human interactions, but it's primarily an action movie.  In other words, if your girlfriend/wife just hates special effect, action movies, I wouldn't recommend inviting her.  8)

I find your statements a bit disturbing, basically saying that vegetarians disbelieve science, resulting in us being weeded out of the gene pool.  In fact, we vegetarians care more about science and what the meat industry as done to our planet and our climate than you may realize.  However, I'm not here to debate my choices and yours, but to only say that I take offense to your statements and how they were delivered.  I won't turn my back on a fellow Acaeum member, regardless of their food choices, but by singling vegetarians out in the way you have, you're segregating everyone with different personal choices.  It makes me wonder what you think of others who don't share your personal beliefs and where they all fall in your ranked ladder of human beings.

Wow Throwi... I apologize if my words caused such offense, it was not meant as an attack on any individual. I was pointing out that IMHO there are Vegetarians and Vegans who approach the subject with a religious-like fervor that puts me off. They make claims that eating vegetation only is somehow superior to an omnivores diet, which is plainly untrue. I certainly never intended for anyone in particular to feel slighted, I simply was stating my opinion (albeit in a manner that on second reading is probably more abrasive than I would have been in person.) If it is your choice to eat vegetarian due to concern over what has been done to the meat industry in this country, more power to you! I applaud your choice in the face of all the advertising and abuse that is heaped on those who choose to "buck the trend" as it were. I agree that most of the meat products in this country have been adulterated to the point where it is unsafe to eat in any quantity. However, with that being said, I would maintain that if you have a source of good, quality meat, and you know how it is raised an prepared, there is nothing to fear from it. I, personally, avoid processed foods as much as I can. My wife and I made a conscious choice to eat food that is healthier (less processed) and lose weight. I'm happy to report that in 9 months, I've lost 61 pounds. We eat very little red meat, we stick as much as is possible to chicken and fish that has been raised responsibly/caught humanely and not to eat "fast food". We've fallen in LOVE with Mediterranean foods like shawarma and gyros (chicken gyros are SO tasty!)

So, in conclusion, (i.e. TL;DR) my apologies to you, and by extension to all vegetarians. I was feeling somewhat feisty that day.

Do you find either an I-Max or 3D experience... does it make it more enjoyable for you?

I personally don't see a huge benefit to 3D if I need a pair of glasses to wear to appreciate the experience (I don't think that the technology is there yet).

Thanks for your response.  I appreciate you taking the time to clarify your point and clear up misunderstandings.  While there are some vegetarians who are overly zealous and even irritatingly forceful about their opinions, I'd argue that that is a personality trait more than a vegetarian trait.  These are the same traits shared by religious zealots and political party hardliners, among others.  If you met me, you'd never even know I've been a vegetarian for almost 20 years.  My choice, my business.  Especially around friends and folks where food is not the centered topic.  ;-)  And furthermore, I've been accosted for my food choices by die hard carnivores more than I've ever pushed my own beliefs.

First and foremost, we're here to share our love and passion for RPG collecting.  As long as we don't ostracize people for their beliefs and personal choices, we're all good.  :-)

Hey, I'm trying to find the Acaeum member who normally has Mr. Easterbrook's packages sent to him.  I can't recall who that it, so if it's you, please send me a PM here.  I need to get the address to send a book for Brett (who hasn't responded to my inquires for an address)... he's paid for it but I'm still holding it...

Thanks!
