It's funnier, sometimes to the point of being silly. If you liked the first, you'll probably like this sequel. The story mostly bumps along as an excuse to showcase this scene, hear that song, or showcase a rant, but it never totally loses it's way. It's more comedy than science fiction or even superhero. It's a popcorn flick. But, it makes some statements that will cut some people to the core. Like, "Being beautiful is a curse because you never know if people really like you for who you are." Or, "Sometimes the thing you are looking for the most is right beside you."Just like the last movie, they are already announcing a sequel. I could see this franchise going five or six movies, maybe more. It's a solid, summer, money-making formula.I saw the movie in IMAX and did not regret it. There are FIVE bonus scenes after the credits! And all are worth the wait. Theaters were giving out free posters yesterday, and they had some leftover for viewers today, and I got one. Don't wait until it comes out on blue ray or HBO. 8)

The movie can be a little difficult to follow, but could be unmanageable if the viewer had not seen Prometheus, the Alien movie just prior to this one. If you like the Alien series of movies, you will appreciate that some questions raised from previous releases are revealed. This movie also explores deeper themes regarding what it means to be human... or not. I was fearful that the movie would be a scarefest, as I don't like movies that play a loud blast of music suddenly when a monster appears, but the movie was more eerie than scary. Michael Fassbender is becoming one of my favorite actors, and he delivers here. The special effects are good and the movie is not too long or too short.The movie was not offered in IMAX at my theater. There are no bonus scenes after the credits. If you usually like the Alien movies, I'd recommend it. If you are not a fan of Alien movies, and especially if you've never seen the movie Prometheus, I'd probably save my money.
