but as I'm quite close to finishing my AD&D FR should I go for these?

I guess that would depend a great deal on how much you like the Realms. I imagine, like most of the 4e stuff, this relates to the Points of Light "milieu" (quoting because I don't think the term is entirely appropriate), and the time warp forward where most, if not all, of the Realms has been dramatically changed -- so, if you really love the older stuff, you might not like this, but you might. Some people really liked Time of Troubles, too.

Me, I looked at it, placed it back where I saw it, but didn't read any of it (just flipped through the book.) The production values are very high, but I can't convince myself to own it, or anything 4e (except those damned brains which are so cute!) yet.

Yeah - I just don't know whether I should bother with them.

(On the subject of 3E - some of the FR sourcebooks have been absolutely excellent - heavy on the flavour text and (reasonably) light on the stats. In fact they were only really let down at the end by the 3 'adventure path' books, Cormyr, Shadowdale & Anauroch. The adventures themselves were okay but literally 2/3 of the books were stat blocks and encounter set ups - sad that gamers now seem to need all of this stuff on a plate. Whatever happened to 'winging it'?)(Al?

Good point - reading through the Grand History of the Realms the world is set for more earth shaking/world destroying events than you can shake a shitty stick at. Whatever happened to less is more?

When/If I finally get a game, it will be set in 'my' Realms and I'd probably kick of at about the Time of Troubles and go from there.

There's also "Return to the Moathouse" & "The Blackdread Caverns" - both intro modules.

Blackdread is a D&D 'Delve' scenario whilst Return is called a D&D 'Adventure'

So....

Here in the Tower of Always Night I hear rumors on the wind:

"Initial rush of purchases," says the wind.

"Stock still on the shelves," says the wind.

"Not doing well - no further orders by sellers," says the wind.

Probably too much wind howling around the Tower of Always Night. Probably ought to cut back on issue of Evil Baked Beans for my legions of terror.
