You have my condolences. He was a hero for his service and, I infer, a patriot. God bless him.

I just saw an ad for the new Hobbit film. A voice, presumably Smaug's, says "don't be shy." Which would mean the Tolkien character is quoting Dance Dance Revolution.

He survived the Battle of the Bulge, and was a couple weeks shy of 91.  It's going to be a weird, sad Christmas.   :(

Chris,
Just saw this and I want pass on my condolences. As a member of the 3rd Ranger Btln, I had the privilege of meeting several WWII Rangers at a reunion. It was an event I will never forget. These guys are all heroes and it is really sad that we are losing them. God rest his soul.

If Dec. 31 is Adam & Eve, then maybe that's why a New Year's Day hangover feels like being expelled from paradise & wanting to kill you fellow man.

since round numbers are fun, as are end of the year goals, i'm happy to report that i hit something of a milestone today: my collection hit 9000 items.

6161 frp items
2309 frp magazines
72    tournament adventures
75    personal manuscripts
120  "old tsr" my catch-all for things that defy easy categorization like convention programs etc.
126  call of cthulhu items
137  knights of the dinner table

so since the last two categories shouldn't count, the frp total is really 8737, but that didn't sound as good...

Heh, your welcome. Without my last minute gnome be-stickered delivery saving you would have had only a moment of near triumph lanquishing at 8999 :)

You are welcome.

Oh, yeah and happy new year.

:D

Here a bit to the west of Chicago, it is currently 17 degrees F (about -8 C) and snowing.  I would normally think of that as pretty cold, except that the low tonight is predicted to be -17 degrees F (-27 C).  And the high tomorrow -- the high -- is -13 F (-25 C).   :shaking:

I've lived here most of my life, and I don't remember temperatures like this in many, many years.  If we're not careful, I think we may be liable to be annexed into Canada.

Anyway, for those who are also enjoying this lovely weather:  take care, and stay inside if you can.  These temperatures are dangerous.

Just spoke to my wife and she said they already have six inches of snow, on top the foot they already have. Expected to get another six inches by the time it ends later today. And the temps are forcast to be around 2 degrees to -15 degrees for the next couple days.

So far just South of Indy we have gotten around 10 inches. Tonight it is going to be -11 or colder with high winds. We lost power for 7 hours but now have it back.

Available now from Die Cast Games: Night of the Black Swords by Allen Hammack (Author of C2-The Ghost Tower of Inverness) with artwork by Jeff Easley and Diesel.
