I found the following from that listing amusing:

BIDDERS BEWARE OF Bid Snipers:

"Bid Snipers" use software to bid in the final few seconds of the auction to take over the auction and win the item at the lowest possible price. You will not be able to beat a bid sniper program at the last minute.

The best way to improve your chances on something you really want is to determine the maximum amount you are willing to pay and enter that amount. That method also helps avoid missing a bid or forgetting to bid on the item. eBay will enter your bid automatically at the LOWEST possible price for you. That means if your max bid is $50, but your current bid is only at $20 and nobody else bids then you still get it for $20 even though you entered $50. If you end up losing the auction it will NOT be because you have been had by a Bid Sniper - it will be because it went beyond what you were willing to pay.

Not so subtle way to try to increase your profit...

If you end up losing the auction it will NOT be because you have been had by a Bid Sniper - it will be because it went beyond what you were willing to pay.

Now wait a second, so if the sniper went beyond your maximum bid, then it was because "it" went beyond what you were willing to pay? What the hell kind of logic is that? Isn't that how most people bid on auctions anyway????

What they are really saying is:

"Put in the maximum price possible, up front, so that if someone wants to shill the auction or puts in some huge amount, you, or they, get screwed and I make out like a bandit."

It sounds like they are trying to say that the Bid sniping machine will automatically go beyond your maximum bid! What nonsense... :roll:

I consider it mostly sound advice. The listing is just saying -- don't wait to bid because you might get outbid in the last few seconds. If you want to avoid that, enter your maximum and then walk away. You might win for lower than you expected.

Maybe its worded poorly, but the gist is that he's telling people to bid smartly.

Those who can, don't. Those who should not, do.

I would think if one is trying to give good advice that works to your advantage, you'd be better off with the logic that it's better to bid now because waiting until later, or sniping, can result in no bid (due to any number of reasons) and the loss of getting what you want. Of course, there are sniping apps to take care of that, but you could fail to mention that. :wink:

Another take on the statements is that this communication is trying to classify sniping as bad. And if their objective is to raise their listing prices, and maybe this helps them. I doubt it, but it's possible.

Still, their logic is seems more greedy than good.

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.

It seems to me that anyone pondering on the advice above would come to one logical conclusion: SNIPE!

Really, the seller lays out all the reasons that smart buyers should snipe except that he does not mention shill bidding.

Bidding as the seller advises is just plain stupid. It's like listening to a shark tell you it's totally safe to swim today.

My school district asks me several times a year if I want to switch to the new retirement plan....

How do I know that I SHOULD NOT make the switch? BECAUSE THEY WANT ME TO!
