Going into the season, I wasn't quite sure I was going to stop competing after 'The Big One' last weekend, but I think this one cemented the deal. It has been 10 years, so it's been a long run. Did manage to squeak out a 4th place for my straight sword form, but got skunked on the other three events. Partly due to good competition, and partly my own errors (which were rather numerous). Brain. Not. There. To make things worse, I was supposed to be doing my usual videography volunteer effort, but the school's camera was not brought by 'the keeper' (not me). The school did manage a 2nd place for team adult forms (with no help from me), but we did not do sufficiently well in the youth divisions or full-contact fighting (not having any fighters this year didn't help there).Speaking of full contact, there was one of the women who must have ended up with a concussion. She got clocked and went down hard, which is a rarity for the women's divisions. She tried to stand back up, but it was obvious she had no clue what was happening, and had to be helped off the lei tai. This one HERE in fact. On the men's side, one match, the unlimited weight division, was total carnage. One of the guys took out his opponent, but ended up (from what I heard - I left early) with a broken collarbone which supposedly hit an artery. End result: no 1st or 2nd place for the division.
