Registration went off with very few hitches....thanks to everyone who showed up for the annual Midnight chat!  It was fun.

We have two seats available for our annual Charity game run by Doug that benefits varietytexas.org, a great children's charity.  One seat was already bought out, but one seat is still available.  Special guests in the game this year are Dennis Sustare, Steve Perrin, Erol Otus, Dave LaForce, Steve Winter, and Tim Kask.  If you have attended any past games you know Doug runs a very wide open game and weird things happen.

We typically have some no-shows. Depending on how many, and how many seats are left in games, will dictate our walk-up numbers each day.
Here is a post I put on facebook in regards to the con filling up at 300 (a pre-set number). I have adjusted it to reflect more recent numbers:

IS THE CON FILLING UP?:
Well, this year we were prepared to handle 300 reserved people for the con and today we hit that pre-arranged total, effectively ending pre-reg for NTRPG a month before the con itself.  Wow, any regular con would be jumping up and down and hitting the websites hard trying to push attendence this year to 400, or maybe even 450-500...?

But, we are only prepared to handle 300 or so this year....mostly reasons of space...gaming space. There is plenty of hotel space (not just the Marriott but the nearby Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn and Candlewood Suites within walking distance). Gaming space is limited mostly due to Doug and I both adhering to the concept that we don't want a giant, packed, noisy con with people shoved up against each other as table after table is placed into a room to accommodate ever growing numbers of gamers. Yes, we could fit double the amount of people in the ballroom (another 8 tables of gamers) and make every break-out room double capacity by squeezing another table inside. We have been to cons like that (and went to one last year) where enjoyment was impossible due to the constricted space. Since this con is as much about Doug and I enjoying it as you guys, we will never be "that" con. Which means we will always respect your "personal space" and not cram people into rooms or at tables just to hit a certain attendence point or make a bunch of money (haha, make money, haha that's funny!)
Moving to a larger venue is obviously impossible for us at this late date. In the future? Probably not unless things change a lot. We enjoy the venue we are at now (our third year) and they get what we are doing and what the con is about, and we are able to rent out the entire hotel a year in advance (something that is impossible at some other venues). Finding another hotel would start the entire process over again, not to mention that once you go bigger costs rise, we have looked and there is a "unsweet spot" between about 300 to 800 attendees where hotels really don't want to accommodate you because you are either too big to fit inside them or too small for them to worry about. We forsee ourselves always at this spot since from the very beginning we decided 500 attendees would always be our max (which I believe we have downgraded to 400 attendees in the years since once we saw how much work it would entail).

We are not going to do offsite gaming, I realize it's a practical solution, but except for special events (we have somethng planned for our 10th anniversary should it come off as we want) offsite stuff is just tough to do well. I have lobbied for using the nearby (across the parking lot) Holiday Inn for some games/sessions and Doug has been resistant and I understand why....in the future, if an attendee wants to rent a room at the Holiday Inn, Hampton Inn, etc and plan a get together or game themselves they are welcom to do so,  but nothing official, at least this year and in the future.

What does this mean? If you are a walk up and we are at capacity, you might be turned away at the door (Saturday, being the busiest day, is the prime candidate for this). Every year people don't show up, and people leave early, which is something we can keep track of and use to estimate how many walk-ups we can handle on a given day. Solutions? Next year register early (as early as you can), and be prepared to accept that unlike a lot of other cons we are going to have a "cap" on attendees at some point (next year we have discussed raising the cap to 350). Does this make us an exclusive vanity type con? We hope not, rather we think this eliminates a lot of the day-trippers and lookie-loos and leaves the "true" old school gamer as the one who benefits and is catered to by the con. It keeps the old school, small 70s con vibe alive which is what we want. We might be crazy in saying "Yes, I know we could jump up to 400 people this year and 500 people next year due to the rise of the hobby and by advertising and promoting more.....but we don't want that extra 100-200 people." But that's what we'll do to keep this thing managable and fun.

We have a LOT of last minute stuff every year....but as the years go on it's going to be harder and harder to accommodate last minute stuff, whether it be vendors (we had to turn several away this year due to being beyond capacity), guests, games or attendees. There's no reason, even if we are "full up" and you can't get a badge, you can't come to the Marriott that weekend to hang out at the bar, meet some gaming legends, stroll around and see the games being played, check out the vendors, meet a friend or two and get a bite to eat, talk about gaming until the wee hours of the morning, even retire to an empty table in the atrium to play a pick up game of D&D.  We do ask, however, that if you sit down to play a game at the con, you please buy a day pass to suppor the con.  I see a future where the entire NTRPG con is "spread out" among the four hotels on that spot, with the main events being sponsored and happening "on site" at the Marriot, and attendees themselves (or groups they are with) renting space at the nearby hotels for their own games, events or sessions outside of the con itself.  Doug doesn't want to do this but unofficially (and if attendees plan these events themselves) we can't stop them. We will see how it all works out this year, but I can guarantee this will be the biggest and hopefully the best NTRPG con yet.

Really, the best deal out there is to register in July for the reduced rate, and give yourself peace of mind.

I am running a Conan (TSR 1985) game off grid Friday afternoon if you have interest in playing in that, or will also be running off grid Vampyre TSR mini game in the bar as a drinking game periodically and Sanctuary boardgame on Sunday morning off grid. Any are welcome from here, and I will be putting up a sign up sheet/ad sheet for these games wherever there may be a posting area.

Throwi that would be great. Conan is a very fun game/system, glad what zefrs is doing to try and keep it 'alive'. A bit more info on this game NTRPGCon Games - NTRPGCon Forum
