Kinda hobby related, I'm off to a place called Blackmoor on Monday for my work. Wonder what I may see there....

hey guys...am kinda back now....just got back from south africa just this morning.

i went and did the Kalahari Augrabies Extreme Marathon...a 237km jaunt in the kalahari ...... awesome experience and i must go there again - it was just such an amazing place.

hope y'all are well and i see the jets had a crappy 3 game losing streak while i was away. see i go off the radar for 3 weeks and look what happens..... sheesh

Welcome back. The Jets should not have picked Mark Sanchez in my opinion. He's good but over-rated and not ready. Rookie QB's have historically not done well overall. Matt Ryan and Joey Flaco are relatively rare exceptions. And I think Matthew Stafford will be O.K. this year and worth the top draft pick over time.

thanks guys

brute: i only run a portion of that distance, power-walk the rest. but am hoping to improve on that though!

feet did very well this time round. i prepared very well. so barring a few blisters and a dodgy left little toe again, i fared very well indeed - extremely happy with things.

will have all the photos sorted next week so will pick out a few choice ones for y'all

as for the jets...well my start of season hope that they would do well has vanished....think its going to be a same old same old season now....can only hope sanchez improves we shall see.

Just some random observations about 4th ed. Take out of this what you will.

Went to the local convention recently. The fellow who DMed our session is involved with a good sized gaming club from out of town. He was the only one left running 3.5 D&D, all the other sessions were 4.0.

We got to talking during a break, and I mentioned how my group tried 4th and did not like it much so we're sticking with 3rd for now and that's why we signed up for his game. (Well, that and also he's a really good DM) I found that several of the other players had the same sentiment. The general consensus from the table of players that day was that 4th Ed wasn't a bad game system- it just doesn't feel like D&D. And that was a sampling of 8 people from different parts of the region.

The DM then confided to us that his club had considered switching from 3rd to 4th Ed, but that all his DMs threatened to quit if they did that. He also told me that he had heard that RPGA membership has suffered since they switched to 4th. (Hearsay, I know. I can't confirm or deny this rumor.)

I hadn't thought about this much since the con, but today I got a flyer in the mail from my FLGS. This month one of the specials on the flyer is this:

Wow! Guess they really want to move those.

Anyway, all this put together makes me wonder how well 4th edition is really doing.

With the other tables playing 4E, the 3.5 table is in the minority. Just stick to your guns and play what is fun for you.

Now that is something to which Hasbro should pay attention. When the FLGS needs to move product with that kind of a sale, someone (Hasbro, FLGS, whoever) has screwed up.

I wish my FLGS had a sale like that; I'd buy PHBs, PHB 2s, and Dungeon Tiles in the off-chance that they are worth money in 10 years.

Anyway, all this put together makes me wonder how well 4th edition is really doing.

Only Hasbro knows.

I have a standard ongoing search for "Rolemaster" in Australia only. It has always worked fine, but two weeks ago, it suddenly decided to include "remaster", so now I get a daily email showing me hundred of records and cassette tapes.

Anyone else experienced this?

The eBay "alternate spelling" in searches has been a bit of a pain in the ass.
I was watching for Chaosium's Big Rubble for a friend of mine and I constantly have to wade through all sorts of Barney Rubble (Flintsones) memorabilia. :lol:

Yeah. It also makes me wonder how much longer FLGSes (the few remaining, that is) can survive, since for most of them D&D 4e is now currently the bread-and-butter of the business. My local store is in a college town and long ago diversified into fantasy clothing and kitsch, which along with M:tG is how they made it through the late nineties.. But what now? Are there any other big sellers that might be their salvation? Hopefully I'm out of touch; I'd be really sad to see FLGS go away.

Yugioh has become a staple at many FLGS stores. If it hangs around much longer, it might just become a game that hangs on for a lot longer. Pokemon effectively died after five years or so. Mage Knight lasted about three years. Other games died even quicker. MtG has lasted way longer than I thought it would, and Yugioh may surprise as well. I realize Yugioh is not an RPG, but it does provide some revenue, life, and corresponding store visits for the FLGS, and may tide them over the economic downturn.

Truth is worth finding and life is too short to work for money.
