You're nuts if you think I am going to walk ten blocks back to the hotel at night in downtown Indy. Especially after eating a plate of sausages and sauerkraut and drinking a few pints of beer. I prefer not to get mugged by some of the crazies that we saw last year hanging around downtown. And after all that beer, I would rather enjoy a quick cab ride back to the hotel instead of the possibility of risking arrest by the police because I couldnt wait and had to take a whizz behind a bush.....just because you wanted to take a nice stroll.

Listen up Mr. "I can run across the Sahara in my bare feet".....if you recall correctly, there were several ne'r-do-wells hanging around the convention center last year just waiting for some unsuspecting geek to drop his guard so they could rob his ass blind. I specifically remember a 7' tall nutjob yelling at people to convert to the worship of Thor and swinging a large hammer over his head. Since they wont let me carry a gun on the plane I pretty much have to go mano-a-mano with these types of people if they show up. I'm no slouch in the kick-ass department but he did have a frickin' hammer.

In regards to walking around Indy at night during the convention, I've done it in various states with no problems. The 'bums' tend to sit and beg from there, while some of the others try to sell postcards and shit but don't push it.

I can tell you that I walk downtown at night all the time. There is very little crime at all in the downtown area. You would be very safe walking to and from the Rathskeller as your path will take you thru the nightlife district if you will. Really no problem, downtown.

The only thing that I feel I need to warn you about is the Circle Center Mall late on Saturday night. Last weekend 14 teenage girls got into a brawl on the mall. Saturday night the local teens use the mall as a hangout. Shopping during the day to early evening presents no problems at all. Also since there will be a convention in town, there will be extra police around.

In Dallas you'd be dead in three blocks...no lie.

Big D is NOT very downtown friendly, as you might have guessed. Anyway, moot point, as I'm jogging from the hotel and back that night, no problem.

could we possibly introduce a huge pool of mud and maybe request that they dress a little more appropriately?

actually, that would make for good training for the 6633ultra.

i will be doing this event in a few years, once i have gotten a few other things out the way:

When the police tried to stop the brawl a couple of the girls beat up the police men. Film footage finally shows three officers slamming one of the females to the ground. The teen women here in Indy are just as badass as the boys.

I've heard that Dallas is quite dangerous. Not that way at all in Indy. Remember when we won the Superbowl, there was not one riot or even a jay-walking in the city that night.

FWIW: Indianapolis is one of the safer bigger U.S. cities I've ever been in. I used to travel there at least once a year for business and I never recall feeling like I was in any danger, even when I was searching for a Steak & Shake at 11 p.m.

(I will, of course, later edit this post if an Acaeum member reports a robbery or something like that ...

)

Drifting off-topic: The city of Dallas can be a dangerous place. Stay near the nightclubs, the bars, or the tourist spots, and you'll be OK. Wander off to the ghettos, the Section 8 housing, or the red-light districts, and you can get into big trouble. I've never had a problem going to the rougher spots, but the potential for trouble is there, especially for tourists.
