aia wrote in Interesting Items Currently on eBay:What is the leaflet included in this 2nd edition boxed set?

If it is the insert included with the game, & includes "Dungeon of the Ground Goblins," then some of the history should be re-written. I had previously heard that the game insert (for the UK GW edition of Holmes) consists of a photocopy of Jackson's article in Games & Puzzles magazine #48 (May '76). However the insert shown in this eBay auction does not have the same text, although it looks like the insert could have been expanded from the article (both mention Midgard & Hyboria). The illustrations also differ.

Nice spot aia!  I added both images from the auction to the ads thread @ Early TSR/D&D advertisements & catalogs

On the high side, this lot could retail for $3100 - $3300  (Depending on how much you really like shrink wrap...)

Say... at $30 minimum per module, then add on for the premium mods?

Call me cheap but I'm not paying retail for nothing. Never get money back you paid for it IMO. $2000 tops for that lot. Could it be possible some are re-shrinked? plus he was charging $100 shipping!  8O

you can find some stuff cheeply.. but usually you have to be fast and luckly.. of course the more stuff you collect the more time this can happen.. you are only collecting very specic stuff then a lot of the time you have to be extremely lucky and extremly fast, esp if its TSR stuff..

Brette:)

My collection is not on par with many members i'm sure but i'm happy with what i've rounded up in the last 30 years. many of the modules in that lot are available on diecast games for $20-30 or less

I have rounded up a fair bit of stuff over the last 15 or so years but I think it is a much tougher prospect now than it was 10 years ago - mainly because of people like us.

10 years ago there were a lot more old game shops that had old stock that I could buy (and would generally make a deal to take it all).  Today it is very rare for me (travelling within the province) to find a game shop that I haven't been to and find anything of worth.  Even on the second hand market, there aren't as many lots for sale.

But if you are a patient collector you can still do okay but for a good lot - you do have to be quick and lucky.  In Ontario, there are a number of people always looking for this stuff.  The last big lot I purchased, my offer ended up being 3% higher than another bidder and I drove 4 hours each way to pick it up (but it was worth it).

What I have found is that you can find the bulk, common stuff over time but "the good stuff" is still really tough to find.  For the small press items I mainly collect, I end up paying top dollar for most of the remotely rare stuff.

i'm referring to the one run by the burntwire bros, i don't know their given names, only i've gotten good deals on their auctions when they run them and from their web store

their prices are more than fair and lower than many other sellers out there

i'm not going to argue with you folks. it's all about making $ to me. If I pay $30 for a S/W module, not very likely I'm going to get $30 for it. Buyers on the Bay are frugal at best

Sure you run into a collector here and there who will pay top $$ for something. But 9 out of 10 times you list it low and let the market determine price. Or you just keep re-listing over and over and over

I was joking obviously, as a quick look at diecast doesn't show part of and certainly not most of the modules listed in the aforementioned lot in shrink for 30 or less even if they do sell them for cheap prices when they had them. In any event happy collecting, or buying and re-selling and making that $!  :P
